Kershaw Knives

Kershaw Knives and Emerson Knives have joined forces on a series of knives that combine the precision engineering of Kershaw with Emerson's uncompromising functional design.

The CQC-5K features a modified clip-point blade for versatile cutting capability. Black-oxide coating protects the blade and makes it non-reflective, too. G-10 handles in olive drab provide secure grip and a locking liner means safe and solid blade lock up.

The CQC-5K is a manual opener using either the thumb disk or the patented Emerson "wave shaped feature." This opening feature enables the knife to be opened as it is removed from the pocket. By the time the knife has been fully withdrawn from the pocket, the blade is deployed and ready for use. A small wave-shaped tab on the top of the blade is built to catch on the pocket seam, opening the knife as it comes out of the pocket. This instant-open feature is a favorite among military, rescue, and law enforcement knife users.

This knife design based off the Emerson Commander model without the recurve to the blade and the pocketclip is reversible for left- or right-handed carry.
  • Manual - There is no mechanical assist, such as SpeedSafe, used to open the folding knife. It opens the classic, old-school way.
  • Liner Lock - Locks the blade open during use; one side of the knife’s steel “liner,” the steel plate to which the handle scales are attached, moves into position behind the blade to securely lock it open.
  • Reversible - Pre-drilled holes in the handle enable the user to change either the tip position or the side on which the knife carries.

Pros: Handle Material, Overall Quality, Lock Ease of Use, Weight, Ease of Opening
Cons: None
I've been thinking about this one for a while and finally decided to give it a try. Not a bad knife. Handles are a little short for my taste, but not too bad. It is after all a smaller knife. Had to tighten the pivot a bit to remove a small amount of side to side play, but now it's good and tight and still opens and closes smoothly. Lockup is at about fifty percent. Wasn't quite as sharp as some of my other Kershaw's out of the box, but a few minutes with a fine diamond hone and a strop fixed that. Handle texture doesn't have the grip as a real Emerson, but is decent. Should be a lot easier on your pocket though. Overall fit and finish is good for this price. Like the O.D. handles I'm kind of a sucker for O.D. , which is one reason I was looking at this one. While there are some things I would change on this knife, I'd still buy it again. Would have given it a five if I hadn't had to tighten the pivot and sharpen it. Thanks Knife Center for your great service.

Great Knife
I got this as a gift for a friend who is active duty military. (So I never actually handled it.) He loves it. Says it's super sharp out of the box and perfect for carrying every day.
