LMDSDCV2: SDC Slim Daily Carry Folding Knife, Version 2
Liong Mah Designs
The Slim Daily Carry is yet another superbly designed flipper from the talented and innovative Liong Mah. With its super swift/smooth action and slim utilitarian design, this is one flipper you won't be able to put down. The SDC is manufactured by Reate in China and meets all the rigorous quality specifications Liong sets for each of his knives. David Deng, owner and chief operator of Reate Knives, is quickly gaining recognition for producing amazing quality pieces for some of the industry's best knifemakers, including the Steelcraft Series by Todd Begg.

The SDC is similar to but unlike any other Liong Mah design. The materials, flipping action and ergonomic feeling in the hand are on par with all other Reate produced Liong Mah's but the design lines take this folder into a whole new realm. It has an extremely compact flipper tab that is hidden by the shape of the handle when open. This is a feature that I absolutely love about this knife as it shows the thought and care that went into the design of the knife before it was ever sent to manufacturing. This flipper is jimped extremely well for excellent purchase and you can choke up on the design for more nimble work as, like many Spydercos, you have additional jimping on both the thumbramp and finger choil.

The 3.625" spear point blade is made from CPM-S35VN stainless steel with a two-tone stonewashed/satin finish. The slim, milled titanium handles are textured for additional purchase and are comfortable no matter what size hands you have. The sculpted titanium pocket clip allows for right-hand, tip-up carry and the knife features a milled titanium backspacer. The frame lock is sturdy, engages smoothly and has a replaceable steel lockbar insert. Each knife comes with a Liong Mah Designs zipper pouch and blue anodized hardware for that extra pizzazz.

Frame Lock
Frame Lock
Developed by Chris Reeve, it functions like a liner lock but the lock is comprised of one of the handle scales. It's an extremely strong and easy to manipulate lock.
Pocket Clip
Pocket Clip
Includes a pocket clip for easy accessibility and a more secure carry.
A tougher steel than S30V, it retains the excellent corrosive properties and ability to take an edge, but improves on the ability to hold that edge.
Titanium Handles
Titanium Handles
A nonferrous metal, it's prized for its high strength to weight ratio and is often used on higher end knives.

Dream of a knife
Everything about this knife is perfect, flies open with such ease and smoothness, drops shut on it's own. Love the blade shape, nice solid lock up, and just a beauty to look at.

Wanted to love it!
I really like the size and shaping of this knife and it's blade--I love Liong's designs, but this knife had in my best analysis-detent issues-major detent issues. I own over 75 mid to high end flipper knives, and this knife would not open fully, regardless of how I positioned my fingers on the knife body or the flipper tap, and regardless of how I attempted to push the flipper tab. I don't know if this is singular to the particular example I received, but I will say that the one other I fondled at Blade Show also had issues. This is a handsome knife and has a large enough blade to be very useful, but they need to work out the issues with the functionality of this one!

This review is based upon initial use only as I have not put it through hard use. The draw for me was obviously the blade shape as I'm sure it will be for others. The blade came sharp but not as sharp as I expected. My PM2 and ZT's arrived wayyy sharper. The blade is a formidable hunk of S35vn that swings out with athourity. You do have to put some serious action into the flip but I suspect things will free up over time. The slabs are textured well and the jumping is aggressive but not painful. The choil when the blade is open secures grip and should prevent your hand from sliding down the blade. It's a bit heavy but carries well in the pocket next to a full size galaxy S7. The blue titanium hardware is not as blue as the pictures show but still looks great. This knife is large and intimidating (about the same size as a large Sebenza but a little scarier looking due to the excellently ground spear point blade)Overall a great knife and should be able take whatever hard use it sees.
