MWKWCMDSW: KnifeCenter Exclusive Maddog Folding Knife, Stonewashed
Willumsen Copenhagen

Willumsen Copenhagen is Mikkel's full-production line, manufactured in China yet quality controlled by Mikkel himself in Denmark. Each piece has been inspected and approved by Mikkel and was created at a price point to make his work available to more of the masses. However, this Maddog does not skimp on materials or manufacturing techniques; this knife feels a heck of a lot like his mid-tech offerings. The only differences are that this knife was made in China and features D2 tool steel. The lockside is titanium, not stainless steel, while the presentation scale is full carbon fiber - and it appears to be very high-quality. We don't detect any voids on this material in any of the knives we handled. And then there's the feel. Caged bearings, a properly set detent, and a replaceable lockbar insert/overtravel arrestor - all found on Mikkel's custom knives so it flips just like a mad dog. We're actually astounded at the quality of this Maddog for the price; D2 and carbon fiber have never been this appealing!

The Willumsen Copenhagen Maddog and all variants will be available exclusively at the KnifeCenter.

Pros: Blade Material, Handle Feel, Weight, Handle Material, None
Cons: Lock Ease of Use, Blade Sharpness
Just a little rough around the edges
I actually purchased the blue anodized model but apparently I got one of the few before they were marked as discontinued here. Can't leave a review on a discontinued item?I'll start off by saying that this is a nice knife and is probably just about the right price point for the materials and the build quality. I found the opening with the flipper tab to be snappy, but it is far from smooth. I haven't yet been into the knife to find out why but something is quite rough. It might be the deep stonewash scratches on the blade surface that appears to be everywhere, something in the detent ball, or something in the bearings. The blade centering slightly favors the carbon fibre scale side. Weird having the detent hole on the blade exposed when the knife is open, and the track from the detent ball is going to detract from the looks as it wears in.The stonewash scratches are quite deep on the blade which may be nice for hiding wear for a long time, but it is really noticeable to the point of being distracting. Guess I favor a more subdued satin or black stonewash. The blade has a decent edge, but I would not consider it really sharp. The false edge grinds on the spine are off a little and it makes the blade look bent (I see the same thing in some of the product photos here).I wasn't sure I liked the point on the end of the handle and once I got it in hand I'm now sure I don't really like it. The blue anodizing is a little flat to my eye and there are visible milling marks along edges of the titanium scales. The single spacer has an odd surface finish with what appears to be wear or polish in the middle and a nice dull satin finish towards the edges. The pocket clip screws picked up a little assembly scratching or small burrs that catch a finger rubbed over them.I do think it is a good knife, interesting design and with really great materials for this price point. The CF quality appears to be very good and the overall feel is really nice. Maybe my particular knife is on the low end of the product QC threshold. Since the product video and description are so flattering I thought they could use another viewpoint from a paying customer. I'd like to see a little coarse gimping on the blade spine out to about 1in from the pivot and maybe a little in the blade choil. This is a big knife for only a 3" cutting edge and I'm not sure I like having to utilize the finger choil for a secure grip.
