Considered a value steel, 8Cr13 steel provides adequate corrosion resistance but with slightly more carbon than AUS-8, it will sharpen up and hold an edge better.

An all around great knife
I use this knife for Military/Fire Rescue purposes. So far, I am very impressed with this knife. My only gripe is that this knife does not come very sharp.

Schrade SCHF 12
In its "class" this knife is a 4 probably but mine had some issues and I think there are some design flaws that might move it down to 3.5. I have already written an in depth review at odellstudios dot com - search for SCHF 12. If this is the sort of knife you're looking for, I think you'll be happy and get a pretty good value. When compared to its siblings though, like the excellent SCHF 10, this knife feels like less knife for the same money. More importantly, mine had a severely off centered edge and was completely dull. Because of the grind it basically couldn't be sharpened. I corrected the edge (at least as far as was worth doing) and it's a perfectly useful knife, not that I have a lot of use for it really. I also have a few nitpicks about the overall design and the sheath (poor fit) that once again, don't ruin it, but make it less of a great value than other Schrade fixed blades. However, I have made a new sheath for it, fixed the edge and might apply some kind of blade coating which is about all that's needed to make me perfectly happy with it. Sometimes we buy things specifically because they make for an easy, rewarding project that results in something unique.

The first thing I noticed about this knife is the ergonomics of it. Overall, the weight signifies durability and power that other blades cannot offer. Chopping is immensely easier due to the slight curvature. Splitting smaller logs is made into a quick and easy process when utilizing the point afforded by the tanto style. Though I will admit a bit of stone work was needed to really hone it down properly, that's one of my only gripes with the production quality. All in all, a wonderful knife generally speaking. And for what it's worth; though it is not an intended use, this girl can fly straight and true if you throw her right.
