Excellent design
I bought this as a car knife and have zero complaints. It reminds me of the knife from the original Maniac poster. Love it.

SOG Upgrades an Old Favorite!
This knife has been redone/updated.The blade is better cut/machined and better thought out. The sheath could be better but the knife is a definite upgrade from what it used to be!This is a great larger boot knife for self defense or utility. But get the kydex sheath. This is one to get for the price and value!!

Good deal, with a few quirks
This is a knife with a few ups and downs, as far as I'm concerned. It's much lighter than I would have imagined. the hollow grinds are very deep creating a fairly thin, light, and nimble blade. It is not a blade that I imagine would stand up to much abuse, but if you're not throwing it, prying, or running around burying the point in oak logs or something, I think it'll hold together just fine.I was very pleasantly surprised by the symmetry of the blade grinds. Anyone who has ever made a double edge dagger can generally appreciate that it's quite a challenging endeavor, very few of them are symmetrical at all, but merely "functional" This knife had about the most perfect grinds I've seen for under a four digit price tag. It came with a mediocre edge, but took a hair popping edge with very little effort. Though it's fairly obvious to most folks, I do feel the need to point out that the blade only has about 3 3/4" cutting edge- the first inch in front of the guard is just a thumb rest on each side. The serrations are decent. Not the greatest in the world, but highly functional. The handle is very well proportioned to my short fingered XL due to thickness hands. It's very grippy- between that and the un-sharpened portion of the edge, There is no reason for concern regarding ones hand slipping onto the blade. The biggest nitpick: The factory sheath is garbage. It's massive size and bulk is probably fine for those attaching it to web gear or something, but it is simply not a workable deal for those of us who aren't in any kind of a war zone or other open carry environment where a knife of this style would be appropriate. Further more, the retention strap is constantly in the way..of the double edged knife. Mine got cut within hours. It definitely gives fuel to the argument that SOG is trying to mass produce to please the masses. I understand they're trying to meet a price point, but I would very much like to see them offer an alternative to the factory sheath at the time of purchase. Now, the good news is that SOG does make and sell a kydex sheath for it for $30- Sure would be nice if Knife Center carried them...(hint...hint...) I would suggest to anyone considering this knife to budget a different sheath into the costs. I made a kydex one for mine within a few days.I purchased this knife just for general purpose grubbing around the yard and shop, and especially for use while boating, fishing, and dip netting for salmon. I think it's extremely well suited for cutting line, net, bait, gilling fish carving out bones from fillets, etc. Protection wasn't a primary task in mind, but I do believe it to be a very capable knife.
