SOG8FSA: Flash II (Straight Edge)

The Flash II has got to be one of the coolest knives we’ve ever seen. Forget its wicked-quick blade access, that it handles like a race car on rails, or that it locks up like Alcatraz. It just looks and feels extraordinary. The Flash family of knives feature SOG Assisted Technology (S.A.T.), which employs a powerful piston lock that is easily released with a sliding button.

The Flash II (Straight edge) comes standard with glass-reinforced Zytel handle and straight edge, Satin finish blade. All Flash knives come standard with SOG’s patent pending, reversible bayonet mounted clip that ensures the lowest, most discreet carry possible. We also had the foresight to incorporate an additional safety lock that gives added security when the blade is closed.

Cryogenic Heat Treatment

SOG's unique cryogenic heat treatment process increases the toughness and wear resistance of our blades. Taking the knife slowly down in temperature to less than -300° and then back to room temperature. This stress relieves the material on an atomic level and increases overall strength as well as edge retention. Knife edges stay sharp longer with significantly less micro-fracturing and edge-chipping. Its this dedication to making your knife SOG sharp that sets us apart from the rest.

SOG Assisted Technology

SOG Assisted Technology works through the balance of opposing high-tension coil springs. As one opens the blade the force to propel the knife open becomes greater than the closing force and the blade will open on its own. The end result propels the blade out once the operator has initiated the one-handed opening action.

S.A.T. works so well that right-handers can use their left hand equally well to open a folding knife (of course this works oppositely for lefties).

We warn you... this blade action is addictive! Play with it once, and you'll be opening it again and again!

Great, lightweight EDC
This is my first SOG, and it's an impressive knife. The handle is a little over 1/2 " thick and has a real good shape for a solid grip, and enough texture so it doesn't feel slick. The blade opens with a nice SNAP, and I love the grind on the blade. It's sharp enough to shave my arm, right out of the box, and the light weight is fantastic. I only gave it a 4 rating because the blade has a little sideways movement, and also a little vertical movement. It's not enough to call it a CON, and it won't affect anything I do with the knife, or my opinion of it. I'll never try prying with it, and the blade lock has to be pulled 100% down for the blade to be closed,so the lock is secure. If there was a 4 1/2 rating, that's what I'd give it. It's a good knife, and I'll love carrying it. And I surely would recommend this to anyone. I REALLY like it.

Can Take a BEATING
I bought one of these about 7 years ago. I really liked it for EDC due to it's being light, ease of deployment, and descent fit in the hand. I liked it so much I bought my dad one. This was my dad's first assisted opener. When my dad uses any tool or piece of machinery he pushes it to the limit. He does this because he knows if he breaks it that he can fix it. He swears by this knife. He has beat on it with a hammer, used it as a pry bar, as a screw driver, scraped metal, you name it he has used it for that purpose. About 2 years ago he lost the knife. He had me order him another one. About 2 months later he found the knife stuck in a tree at my uncle's place where he had used it working on a shredder. So, now he has a nice one and a beat up one.It is hard to sharpen. It takes a little time. But he says he does not mind since he is good at it and it holds an edges well.He loves the pocket clip because it can be resprung. He puts it in the vice and carefully bends it at the right place and it is tight in his pocket again. He has done this numerous times. The lock has given on him one time. He said he knew he was pushing it to the max and was prepared for it to give so that if it did he would not get injured. The last time I was at home I picked it up. It is worn and beat up but still very functional. If you are looking for a light, tough, comfortable EDC I don't think you can go wrong with this knife. Be patient when sharpening and you will always have a good sharp tool in your pocket.

Good for the price but not a hit
Razor sharp out of the box and really fast opening. But the handle material looks pretty cheap. My main con is that it is really difficult to close with one hand because of the combination of the design of the lock and the assisted opening mecanism. I have the same problem with all models which, regardless of their price, combine an AXIS-type lock and an assisted opening mechanism like the BM Vector. IMO the only assisted openers which can be easily closed with one hand are those with a liner lock such as the Ken Onion Boa or the BM 890 Torrent (just to cite two discontinued master pieces).
