SP101GP2: Manix 2 S30V

A recipe for folding knife success: Start with hard-use rated lock. Add a blade made of exotic high carbon steel. Manufacture it in Golden, Colorado using precise tolerances then add a healthy dash of American innovation. These ingredients are the Manix 2, a concoction of solo features when combined make one of the strongest knives from Spyderco to date. Patented by Spyderco, the Manix 2 has a Ball Bearing Lock. It’s a hardened free-floating ball bearing contained in a custom hi-tech polymer cage. The round ball bearing allows the lock to self adjust across a large surface, smoothly and consistently locking-up with solid confidence. Evolving over time, the Ball Bearing Lock’s strength withstands hard work with a secure, versatile and comfortable grip. Ergonomics are peerless in this design. The blade is S30V and flat-ground with aggressive thumb serrations (jimping) above a super sized 14mm Spyderco Round Hole. The Jimping doesn’t stop there. With full steel liners the scales have jimping that extends beyond the G-10 handle scales scalloping areas of the handle’s perimeter. This one is not slipping out of your hand and works well with gloves on! The liners pull double purpose by adding rigidly and lightweight strength to the handle. A three-screw clip is left/right-hand carry, positioned for comfort and deep pocket carry. The knife also has a large lanyard pipe to protect various types of cords or thongs.

I bought this to add to my EDC collection. This was my first Spyderco and I'm a big fan now. This knife screams quality. Once the knife is broken in, it's super smooth opening and closing. Plus, it came razor sharp. The pocket clip works, but I'd prefer some a little more inconspicuous and something that is deep carry.

First expensive EDC knife purchase
To be honest, this is a glorified box cutter to me. I have several cheapo knives that I've used in the past, but wanted something special, something that is complete overkill for its purpose. I purchased this knife because it's built like a tank, and had great reviews from people who know a lot more about knives than I do. I had trouble choosing between this and the paramilitary 2, which also had great reviews, but ultimately chose this one simply for looks. There was some concern about people complaining about finger strength needed to activate the closing mechanism, but I have strong hands and this hasn't been a problem. Honestly, I have no business owning a knife like this, but I have no regrets, I love this knife and it probably won't be my last.
