Description
SP123TIP: C123TIP Sage 2
Spyderco

Second up in the Sage Series is the titanium Sage. The Sage Series manifests Spyderco’s three decades of pioneering knife crafting and innovating. The series reprocesses a similar shaped and sized folder, releasing a new version annually. Each rendition highlights a locking device or mechanism and credits that mechanism’s inventor.

The first Sage recognized knifemaker Michael Walker’s creation of the LinerLock® with a ball bearing detent method of keeping a folding knife closed. Sage number two focuses on knifemaking prime mover Chris Reeve’s embellishment of that original Walker LinerLock by his morphing it into his R.I.L. - Reeve Integral Lock. This modification uses the handle scale as the lock’s liner.

With the back portion of the handle doubling as both handle spring and lock, the need for internal liners is dispensed with and the knife can be manufactured lighter and slimmer while staying strong. The Spear-point shaped CPM-S30V is flat-ground and coalescence of Spyderco’s Caly3 and Native Models in shape and function. The handle is all screw constructed titanium. Inside are phosphor bronze washers for smooth open/close. Silhouette wire clip snugs down deeply in a pocket and adjusts for left/right-hand carry. Jimping covering the spine and finger choil stop slips and glides.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Overall Quality, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type
Cons: None
I have and have owned a number of Spydercos. This is by far my favorite. I use it everyday. I used to carry a stainless Delica 4 at work, and it got my principal's attention a few times, even just in my pocket. This never raises an eyebrow-even though it's nearly exactly the same size, the color, the material, the matte finish are all a bit more subtle. Plus, it weighs less, and as good as the ergonomics are on the Delica, this thing is even better. Feel in the hand is just about perfect. The blade takes a great edge and stays sharp. It cuts like a laser. I am ridiculously enamored of it - if I'm not carrying it, I get antsy. I have other knives I need to know exactly where they are, and others I couldn't really care less about, but this one has to be with me all the time. I need to buy another to have as a spare. It's just that good. I can't think of a thing I'd change about it.

Excellent Knife, Wish I had Purchased it Sooner.
For me the Sage 2 is small enough for everyday carry but large enough for heavy use. It has a very sturdy feel to it and opening the knife with a flick of the thumb is as smooth as butter. I owned the Chaparral first and almost didn't buy the Sage 2 as the size was so similar, but I find the Sage 2 to be a much different knife. While I don't carry the Chaparral when I expect heavy use, the Sage 2 is ideal for heavy work. I have quite a few knives of this quality, and find that the Sage 2 is now competing with my Benchmade 940 as my favorite folder.
