Description
SP195GPOR: C195GPOR Brad Southard Positron
Spyderco

Designed by custom knifemaker Brad Southard, the Spyderco Positron takes all the best features of a full-service flipper folder and distills them into a compact, pocket-friendly format optimized for everyday carry. A faithful expression of Southard's "Ion" folder, this KnifeCenter Exclusive Positron features a full-flat-ground satin plain edge blade crafted from premium CPM-S35VN particle-metallurgy stainless steel. Integral to the edge side of the blade, its minimalist flipper tab provides swift, reliable one-handed opening with the stroke of an index finger. In the open position, the flipper also serves as an extremely effective hand guard and a perfect complement to the handle's ergonomic lines.

The handle's twin scales are crafted from polished orange G10 that is precisely machined, radiused, and polished to create an amazingly comfortable grip. They also house the nested, skeletonized stainless steel liners that are the heart of the knife's sturdy liner lock mechanism. To ensure an ultra-smooth opening action, the Positron's blade and handle are joined by special ball bearing washers that greatly reduce friction and ensure a long service life. A reversible deep-pocket wire clip offers either left or right-side tip-up carry and strikes an excellent balance between subtle discretion and immediate access.

One Fine Blade
Orange is not my favorite color, but this one has grown on me. This CPM-S35VN steel is the best blade I have ever had; it got its first blood the day I received it in the mail. I ordered it on a Saturday and thought I would have to wait 5 to 7 days, but it came in the mail the following Tuesday.

Poor Quality Control, Love the knife !!
I was intrigued by the sale price and the Orange color of the knife but put off by the wide spread of negative and positive reviews. The quality of the blade and the price is what finally swayed me to take a chance with a purchase. The first thing that came to mind (when I got the knife ) was that the orange color was really not as bright as I thought. It is rather subtle and the polished G 10 made it classy for this knife. Secondly, I noted that the back corners of the scales were a little pointy to my hands but no deal breaker. Action was a little gritty and tight, the blade was centered but was much closer to one side which was puzzling. I received five knives today (birthday) in the mail, three Spydercos, one Knockout, and a Ruike. At diner the women folk thought the orange was attractive, no screams, fainting or signs of panic took place when I took the knife out to play with. The orange knife was not intimidating to others in the restaurant. Later had an extremely hard time taking out the pivot screw, resorted to vise grips to turn the screws on a screwdriver. Found out they were so tight because whoever assembled it did it to cover up the fact the liner pivot hole did not fit properly causing the blade to go to one side. Dremeled the pivot hole and put the knife back together. Now the pivot screws turned with light torque and the blade properly centered without force. It is a little awkward to use your index finger to release the liner lock, but I don't think it's worth the effort to Dremel the scales to improve the access to the liner lock as I have large hands. Now the action is also much smoother as the pressure has been released on it. Despite the quality control problems with this knife, I can't put it down. It just feel so good to handle and the pocket clip helps to hold onto the knife. So if you can put up with the Quality Control problems and resolve them easily, I would definitely encourage you to buy one. I don't know why Spyderco does not go thru this batch and fix the problems. Of the five knives I received today, this was my favorite out of the group. I like this knife so much I am thinking of buying another one.
