Spyderco Sharpening Stones
I have several models of Spyderco’s ceramic sharpening stones. Firstly, the Tri Angle Sharpmaker is the absolute BEST sharpener of its class/type. It’s the best system for beginners to start their learning process of how to properly sharpen knives and other objects as well. The Spyderco serrated edge looks as though it would never be able to re sharpen, that is not at all true. The. Tri Angle Sharpmaker quickly and easily sharpens serrated blades by simply using the sharp edges of the sharpening stones. Running several passes on the bevel side to two on the flat side to remove the burr. Rinse and repeat till it’s sharp, it won’t take long. The flat stones are fantastic for the more experienced sharpeners out there. All one would ever really need is the 8”x2” medium and one fine stone to make a perfect pair. To clean, use a green scruffy pad with dawn soap in it and scrub vigorously, then rinse off and t(en dry with a paper towel and you are done. Make sure that you NEVER EVER use oil or even water as a lubricant, you will permanently ruin your ceramic stones by using oil on them. Spyderco stones will easily last a lifetime if used properly, just make sure you never drop them on a hard floor, ask me how I know........Spyderco ceramic stones cut very fast, and easily, making short work out of resharpening your blades. If you decide to buy one Stone only to start, buy the medium. The medium stone will get your knife sharp and has a smooth enough finish to cut very well on its own. Certainly adding the fine stone will perfect the edge and it will cut smoother and easier. BUT, if you are cutting things like cardboard, only use the medium stone to sharpen your blades. The rougher finish will help you cut the cardboard faster and will keep your knife sharper longer than if you started with a blade you finished on the fine ceramic stone. Cardboard is super abrasive and will erode your edge if it’s finished too fine, the slightly rougher edge done by the medium gives you an edge that cuts cardboard the best and the slightly rougher edge resists the abrasive cardboard’s erosion of the edge itself. Spyderco makes products you can trust and believe in. I started buying Spyderco knives and sharpening systems in 1993, so, I have a great deal of personal experiences with their inventory as a whole. They only make great products, you’ll never catch them pulling some shady deal to save a buck on the manufacturing side. As I said before, Spyderco makes products you can trust and believe in, they are all in the class of Heirloom items as they will last long enough to pass down the line to your grandchildren.
