Description
SP81GPBN2: C81GPBN2 Paramilitary 2 Earth Brown G10 with S35VN Steel
Spyderco

Available here at the KnifeCenter is the Paramilitary 2 folding combat knife in Earth Brown G10 handles and Crucible Industries S35VN steel (C81GPBN2)! Why change something if it works? Because, at Spyderco, they practice the principle of C.Q.I. - Constant Quality Improvement. If they can refine and improve the ergonomics or cutting performance of an established model, they do it.

Crucible Industries' S35VN steel substitutes niobium carbides for some of the vanadium in their popular S30V steel. They estimate this steel to be 15-20% tougher than S30V without any loss of wear resistance—its improved toughness gives it better resistance to edge chipping. This steel has gained rapid popularity with both custom knifemakers and the steel aficionados who make up a good chunk of their customers.

The G10 handle is narrowed at the end improving the ergonomics. The handle and blade have been profiled thinner; removing uncomfortable angles when in the closed position. It features a Compression Lock and an ambidextrous-friendly four-way clip which carries tip-up/tip-down, left/right-hand and rests deeper in a pocket. They kept the same full flat-ground blade but they've also lengthened the blade's tip and added additional surface jimping to both the spine and finger choil. Implementation of a Bushing Pivot System generates fluid action and more consistent manufacturing tolerances. Larger lanyard gives more options for carry.

The Paramilitary 2 has a huge following among both collectors and users who demand top performance. Many collectors and users already own several versions of this US-made classic and you're all going to want this one!

Refinements to overall construction may not be dramatic or even visible to the eye but everything is sharper, smoother and guaranteed to provide performance and user comfort.

My new favorite EDC
This is my first PM2 and I was a bit reluctant because I was concerned about the size and ergonomics. To my surprise, it fits like an extension of my hand. The feel is natural with no hot spots in the grip. The knife was "dialed in" right out of the box with perfect flip action and a good detent. Everything is perfect and now I find myself grabbing this knife over my others.

Still a great knife
I've had the standard S30V PM2 in my pocket every day for 2 years now(see review). For strength, utility, maintenance and ease of cleaning the PM2 is hard to beat. I'll add that I do own a Para 3, but still prefer the PM2. In regular use of today's knife steels, I can say that S35VN IS an upgrade.

Hype
After researching for a EDC knife I decided on this. Now that it is in my hands I am worried about the ruggedness of this knife and how much abuse it will take. It is also expensive.
