SPFB23SBBK: FB23SBBK Black Aqua Salt, Serrated
Spyderco

The Aqua Salt is an amazingly versatile, do-everything knife made even better with the benefit of an H-1 steel blade. Fans of this workhorse design—including many military personnel—were devastated when it was discontinued. Based on popular demand, the Aqua Salt is back and better than ever with a non-reflective titanium carbonitride (TiCN) blade coating. Available with a plain edge or spyder edge, its hollow-ground blade provides excellent edge geometry for effective cutting and edge retention, while its injection-molded fiberglass-reinforced-nylon (FRN) handle features Bi-Directional Texturing for a rock-solid grip and superior control, even with wet hands. A matching injection-molded polymer sheath features a multi-position G-Clip for fully configurable belt or waistband carry and grommeted construction so it can be easily lashed or flex-tied to personal equipment.

Review Post Script
I was able to solve the problem of the slippery handle, at the spine + belly, with strips of black sandpaper stair tread tape ( a 4" piece on front-spine, about a 1/6" from start of handle, so as not to interfere with retention, and 2" on belly from 1/16" back from start of handle/quillon, and 2' strip from pommel forward on the belly). This handle is now grippy-er than a teenage boy on a back seat date at a drive-in picture show. It went from 50% grip confidence, to 100%. You may want to try it. The tape would work well on tomahawks and rescue tools, too.

Wickedly Good
A knife to make any fixed blade guy drool. If Mike Nelson had this blade on, ‘Sea Hunt,’ he’d have avoided half the predicaments he found himself in (Google it, ya young, whipper-snappers). H1 is not just for beach bums and frogmen. Lily-livered, land-lubbers like it, too. Love the aggressive Spyder edge, deep hollow grind, and the low maintenance H1. The sides of the FRN bi-directional grips are grippy, but the spine and belly of the handle are smooth and slick, especially the thumb position in saber grip. Wouldn’t be a problem with your neoprene dive gloves on, but for me it needs some work. That sand paper friction tape that operators put on their Glock grips would be perfect, except it won’t work at thumb position with the retention of sheath. I will have to rough it up with sand paper, or do some custom cross hatching with a Dremel tool. Not a biggie. Sheath is nice, retention is tight, as you would expect with a dive knife. Look up “work hardened H1” for explanation of how serrated H1 takes-on additional edge hardness into the HRC 60’s. Spyderco’s, Aqua Salt would make a nice, low maintenance duty knife for LEO’s/1st responders, with an edge that can handle most anything that comes your way.
