SVOCS28: Carcass Splitter
The Carcass Splitter has an 11" blade, overall length of 28.75" and is made from one piece of 7mm thick 8670-grade high carbon steel. The blade has had a hand applied differential temper, with the cutting edge at 58 Rockwell C and the spine and handle at 45-48 Rockwell C (spring temper). The handle is black matte finish Micarta, and it has been riveted using 0.25" diameter solid copper pins which have been hand peened. The scabbard is made from vegetable tanned hand-stitched Italian leather. The Carcass Splitter is a traditional tool of the village butcher and is used to cut a hanging carcass in half. Hand made in Waiuku New Zealand by Master Cutler Bryan Baker.

Micarta is a compressed layered composite sealed within a thermosetting plastic which creates a strong, attractive material that is impervious to water.
