Excellent Knife Within Given Bounds!
The S&W Homeland Security Knife (CKSURC) is an excellent knife in many ways, while in other ways, not so much. First, the downside is that it's not a great hunting knife. It's a poor one, actually, and cannot be used for cutting and dressing animals. It's also not a small, light knife for other jobs, though it can be pressed into that kind of service. As a chopping knife, it's almost indestructible and can baton with the best of other knives. The older sheath is better than the new one, but this one works. The knife also is a sharpened crowbar, so it's tough. Again, the old one is better, being made of 440C stainless steel instead of the newer 7Cr17, but in this kind of knife, you may notice no difference at all. It's just that I like the 440C when the heat treat is well done. How is S&W's heat treat? I can't say because I'd need to compare it to something else that's designed to cut and chop like the Homeland Security. The Homeland Security is a great survival knife and is a good addition to one's bugout bag, but it shouldn't be your only knife. This is a heavy and slow knife, so you'll need something that's light and quick to supplement it.

My go-to
I bought this knife around 18 months ago. This is still one of my favorites and for the price you cant beat it. When it arrived the only problem was out of the box the knife was rather dull. I am a knife nut and know proper sharpening techniques so this doesnt bother me. After having the knife for about 2 months the sheath broke. There is a rivit holding a rubber-like support inside the fabric. This ripped out and I had to improvise to make it work again. The knife gets used for every task imaginable and its edge holds well for it being 440c. The camo pattern is still fully visible and scratches are at a minimum. The tanto design is my personal preference for larger fighting style knives so thats a big plus. The sawtooth-like edges along the back are useless. Overall this is a great knife with alot of potential in the right hands to conquer any situation.
