Al Mar Knives
The Shiva is an original Al Mar design and it is the first Tactical fixed blade we've ever made with a laminated VG-10 stainless steel blade. Laminating the VG-10 between two layers of 400 series stainless steel increases the lateral strength of the blade by upwards of 30% and does so without increasing the weight or bulk. The Shiva has a beautiful tapered tang, contoured and polished black Micarta scales, satin stainless guard and a full grain traditional leather sheath in black. It is one of the finest quality tactical fixed blade Al Mar has ever made.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Overall Quality, Weight, Blade Material, None
Cons: Sheath/Scabbard, Finish
The knife is nice - the sheath construction causes scratches
I use the knife as a personal defense tool. The fit and finish of the knife is excellent for my specific use. It's definitely no hunting or bush knife it that's what you're after. Why the meh rating? The sheath's female snap is exposed on the inside of the sheath such that it scratches the fine finish of the knife. i found out the hard way. For a moderately expensive knife I would expect a far better sheath design, and you should too. Particularly in an Al Mar knife. I'll eventually have a real sheath maker build a real sheath. For the money, you can find knife makers who pay better attention to all of their product details. Sorry, Al.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Sheath/Scabbard, Handle Material, Blade Material, Materials, Weight, Overall Quality, Finish
Cons: None
Use the knife for hunting, camp chores, everyday carry in the bush. Also use it as light knife for patrol/service. This is without comparison one of the finest, smoothest and top quality knives I know of. The sheath is of excellent leather, light and smooth and can be worn both inside or on outside of belt and much nicer than the ugly noisy kydex sheaths. The steel is outstanding and it is razor sharp directly from box, but more importantly is also quite easily re-sharpened for a VG10 steel. Same quality as Fallkniven S1 but smoother and more elegant and very comfortable to use also for skinning - and easier to re-sharpen with a slightly thinner blade. I would rank it above the fallkniven or similar, more elegant, but slightly more slippery handle. Very light and precise craftmanship. Highly recommended !

Pros: Materials, Overall Quality, Sheath/Scabbard, Finish, Handle Material, Blade Material, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Weight, None
Way over rated, disapointing at best.
As a combat or searious tactical knife, get real, maybe if you have dainty hands or are actually a girl with girlie hands. Way over priced except as a nicely finished desk or table knife, showy, super fine finish grade, yes yes, compete with a Chris Reeve Pacitic or GB, no way no how, this is a very tame and small knife, not close to a work horse or real deal comabt knife at all. Sorry folks, i have the brown micarta one, wayyy over priced for what it is.
