BH15BW01SL: Be-Wharned Folding Knife

The wharncliffe blade design is one of the most functional utility patterns ever developed. Thanks to the efforts of edged-weapon designer and trainer Michael Janich, it has also earned a reputation as an incredibly potent personal defense design. Janich’s BLACKHAWK! Be-Wharned folding knife features an aggressive, satin-finished AUS8A stainless steel blade that provides extreme cutting performance for its size. It is mated to a handle constructed of hardened 420J stainless steel liners nested into textured black G-10 scales. A sturdy liner-lock mechanism, exceptional ergonomics, and a four-position clothing clip complete the package, making the BLACKHAWK! Be-Wharned folding knife one of the most advanced tactical folding knives available today.

I had been thinking about getting this knife for quite a while, and finally acquired one. The good news: It is light but strong. It came very sharp, and will sharpen easily because of the steel used and the Wharncliffe edge. The scales are very aggressively textured, yet the knife comes out of the pocket easily, and the blade flicks open with excellent lockup. This feels great in my hand, and I like the way it looks just a tad better than the Yojimbo (another excellent knife) and costs much less. Mike Janich designs good knives. The only con from my perspective is the pocket clip seems a bit flimsy. Nonetheless, in practice it performs fine. It would make a sound choice for a combative blade, with some utilitarian potential.

Blawckhawk Be-Wharned
Quite possibly the best knife in my collection. Quick to deploy and bragging rights sharp right out the box. Love the Wharncliffe blade style. I won't carry it to open boxes or letters, other knives will get relegated to that task. In my mind this is simply a high quality fighting folder which was what I wanted and what I got. Couldn't be happier.

UPDATED* This knife has had ZERO "hard use" and the liner is slightly bent.. making the knife useless (hard to open) IMHO. Other people seem to have similar problems with the knife being difficult to open and it's now obvious to me that there's a design flaw. Don't waste your money!
