Benchmade Knives
The Griptilian is born of custom knife maker Mel Pardue's passion for functional designs. You release the creature's ferocity with a thumb stud. At the very heart of the Griptilian, is the exclusive AXIS locking mechanism. This modern marvel gives life to a cutting tool like you have never experienced before, especially in a lightweight folder. Rock-solid ambidextrous function is sure to tame the most die-hard of traditionalists. And you can grab onto the lightweight, injection molded handle with its grip-textured surface and rib covered spine that grabs you right back for a "can't let go" grip. The Griptilian also comes with a reversible carry-clip for right or left side carry.

  • AXIS® A patented Benchmade exclusive, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100-percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar which rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spanning the liners and positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar it’s inertia to engage the knife tang, and as a result the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

Pros: Blade Sharpness, Lock Type, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Material
Cons: None
I'm a wildlife technician (trapper) for Flordia Fish & Wildlife Conservation Commission. I've used my Mini-Griptillian more than any other knife I own (I probably have 70+ now). It's cut everything I've put it to, including several tree limbs. It's also good for detail cutting, and shaping. I live, and work in a salt water environment so it's gotten wet, but I've not had any problems with rust, or corrosion. Working with wild animals I've had to wash it more than once, but after drying, and lubricating it continues to work as well as when I took it out of the box. It's sharp out of the box, but can be honed to an edge that rivals a scalpel. My co-workers have marveled at the little knife I carry, and when given a choice between using it, or another I have to offer they always say, "Give me that sharp one."

Over rated knife
In my opinion, this knife is over-rated. It is very light and easy to carry. However, the pocket clip is a little tight and small in my opinion. Also, the handle of the knife (whic makes it very light) feels cheap and very plastic.... almost like you can break it if you squeeze hard enough (which you won't, but it feels cheap like that). It is a decent knife and keeps an edge, but just feels like of cheap and small to me. The locking system is pretty good.

Great small knife
I own a number of griptilians both full size and mini and they're all great knives. The mini is small enough to not attract attention but big enough to perform almost any task. The AXIS lock is virtually unbreakable and the blade steel is top quality. I assume most people will use this knife for routine cutting jobs but it will also double as a small tactical/defense knife if needed.
