Description
BM698: 698 Foray, Satin Plain
Benchmade

Much like its popular predecessor, the 698 Foray offers gent-styling in a larger overall profile, translating to improved handling and all-around utility. The G10 handles are extremely durable, impervious to moisture or liquid and physically stable under climate change.

AXIS Lock

A patented Benchmade exclusive, AXIS has been turning heads and winning fans ever since its introduction. A 100 percent ambidextrous design, AXIS gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar that rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spans the liners and is positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega-style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar its inertia to engage the knife tang. As a result, the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

My new favorite EDC.
I just received mine a few hours ago, and cannot stop playing with it. It is a work of art. Perfect craftsmanship. Blade is centered, razor sharp and has no play. Action is smooth. Love the axis lock. I have carried Puma and Case knifes for over 40 years, but this knife is in another league. Also, thanks Knife Center for the easy to use site and the fast delivery.

Benchmade Foray
So far so good. When I received my knife I was impressed with the high level of workmanship, blade perfectly centered. It had a clean snape sound of the axis lock engaging when I opened it with fic of my wrist. Love the deep care clip, light in my pocket it was easy to forget I had in the pocket. I feel it is worth the price. sharp out of box but I do need to strope. The name has cool factor (Foray a sudden atack on enemy camp)Fast delivery From Knifecenter.com Thanks

Missed potential on my sample
First the good things about it from my perspective. It looks nice, feels good in-hand, and is built quite well. The design choices that went into producing this knife give it a very classy look & feel. It has a nice heft to it and the contours & clean look make it a very appealing gentleman’s edc choice. The absolute worst thing about the example I got is the thickness behind the edge which I measured at 0.035” to 0.038” which does not make for much of a good slicing knife. Push it through an apple and it quickly starts breaking the fruit rather than cutting it. The ‘sharpened’ edge is the worst example I’ve seen from the several dozen Benchmade knives I’ve owned. I never expect much from a new Benchmade and always sharpen them properly before they see much use. It’s repairable by resharpening but I’ll stand by what I said about this one being the worst. Glad that I bought this at the recently (Dec 2019) discounted price rather than the original MAP price but even at that I wouldn’t recommend it to anyone. Obviously production knives will vary quite a bit so should you chose to buy I certainly hope you get an excellent example of it because it surely is a classy looking knife. I’ll fix mine with a resharpening but it’ll have a very tall apex and still be far behind the edge. I guess I’ll live with it but it’s not likely to get in my pocket too often. Too bad because it surely has the potential to be a favorite.
