One of the best gifts I've given
I purchased this knife as a birthday gift for my spouse and she loves it. A little background: I own an original McHenry & Williams Axis lock. I love it and it has served me well for 17-ish years that I've had it. The spouse had given it a few covetous glances, so I figured the upcoming birthday was a great opportunity to get her one. The action is smooth, the blade sharp out of the box, the lines and finish clean. All the things one would expect from Benchmade. It's much lighter than it's predecessor which is to be expected with nearly two decades to improve upon the design. The ambidextrous action is still one of the great advantages of the Axis system. It's set in such a way as to have good, solid tension keeping the blade in place while closed but you can still open it with a flick of the wrist. I have larger hands and the small frame fits just fine in them. She has small hands that don't find it clumsy or ungainly. I'm a little concerned about the grip scales becoming slippery as the textured sections are only small panels but so far so good. I mentioned sharp but it bears repeating, this comes SHARP out of the box and after a week of use is still going strong. The only bad thing I can think to mention is the pocket clip. The original is better. Just hands down. I've seen several versions on friend's knives over the years. They got it right the first time and then changed it and not for the better. That's opinion though.
