Pros: Lock Type, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Pocket Clip, Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Weight, Lock Ease of Use, Blade Material
Cons: Blade Sharpness, None
Light, Slim, Deep pocket carry, discreet tacticl folder
The first requirement I have in a folding knife is the lock mechanism. I have several Benchmade folders with the axis lock mechanism and have found them to be extremely strong and secure and ambidextrous to operate. The pivot design and materials make for an extremely smooth and consistent operation. The G10 handle scales were precisely fitted to the liners but had an extremely rough/sharp surface pattern. The texture was aggressive enough that it caught on the pant material and was extremely abrasive. I was able to rectify this with a few light swipes with 220 grit sand paper. Every Benchmade knife I ever handled has had a razor sharp blade. This specific knife I received was not and the grind on the tip passed by quality control. I contemplated sending this knife back, but chose to sharpen it myself with my Lansky sharpener and leather strop which gave the 154CM steal blade a factory sharp, symmetrically ground edge. I was looking for a folder that had a smaller, slim profile and deep carry clip that would disappear in a pair of dress pants and not look like "knife". If you are looking to fill this role, this is an excellent choice. the dual blade studs and smooth pivot open this knife with a flick and the moderately cut finger choil along with the jimping on the back of the handle allow for a very secure purchase for a small, slim design. If it were not for the rough G10 texture and the uncharacteristically "not so sharp" blade, I would have given this knife a 5+.
