The steel of this knife is NOT 440A. It is more closely related to 440C , if anything. It's qualities are Wear resistance, hardness ( Rockwell 60) , edge retention and stain resistance. It is commonly used for bearings and other high wear commercial machine applications. It's much better steel than 440A. Not picking on John. Just don't want others who might want this knife to be miss led. This is a lot of knife for the money. I think this knife is easily the equal of many knives in the 135 - 200 dollar range. doesn't come razor sharp. But can be made so without too much trouble.

top quality ---
When I first saw this series from Boker, I knew I'd be adding some of them to my collection--this is the second Arbolito I've bought, the first was the smaller "Nicker"---These knives are extremely well proportioned, decent quality steel, a type of 440A, and came very sharp from the box. The overall fit and finish is top notch.---I was surprised by the tapered tang, a feature usually seen on custom made or very high end knives and the red liners are a nice touch---all in all, it is very well made and comes with a decent leather sheath---well worth the money, a five star knife all the way---- Made in Boker's factory in Argentina and they got it right ---
