This is a large survival/combat knife. I put "survival" first because it really is configured to work as a survival tool or a bushcraft knife. The blade is massive and the waterproof compartment in the handle is very well made. If you were stranded with one tool, this one would be a great choice. Over the years, the knife market has seen numerous survival knives with hollow handles. Many of which can only be regarded as mere show pieces, due to a lack of stability. However, Newton Martin from Texas has developed a construction which is virtually indestructible, despite the screwed tang and handle. Extreme bending tests with this fixed blade have permanently deformed the blade before any kind of weak points were noticeable at the point of connection. International experts have been highly enthusiastic about the presentation of these custom knives, and now we are extremely proud to present this successful concept by Martin Knives as an exclusive Boker Plus product. The massive blade has a thickness of 6mm, and is made of high performance 440C stainless steel. The construction of the handle provides an entirely waterproof compartment inside the handle, for the safe storage of additional equipment (not included). The cord wrapping of the handle not only increases the grip but also provides several valuable meters of stable rope in case of an emergency. Due to the milled checkering, the handle also provides a safe amount of grip in various conditions without the wrapping. The prominent handguard enhances the secure handling of the knife. The handle and blade have a matte, non-reflective blasted finish. A knife without compromise, ready for any adventure! Includes a high quality black leather sheath.

Reassuring sturdiness
I started collecting hollow handle survival knives after "First Blood" came out. I am just a collector, not a user, but in a SHTF scenario, there are only a few knives in my collection that would find their way into my bugout bag, and this would be one of them. Snapper reviewed it as a user and attested to it's sturdiness, and after getting mine I can see why. This thing is built like a tank! It has wonderful heft to it with a nice thick blade which would make chopping easier. I wouldn't be afraid to use the tip for prying either. The saw back is aggressive enough to use on small branches. The sheath is a real letdown and I wouldn't take the knife out into the world in it. Both reviewers didn't like the handle wrap, but that is easy to remedy by re-wrapping with better para cord. I read somewhere else that the handle is knurled underneath the wrap, and if that is true, you could even use a vinyl tool dip in place of the cord for more grip. Over all, I am happy to add this to my collection.

Boker Plus Apparo Combat Survival
As a universal knife for camping etc. The knife is big enough for the tasks at hand. The blade thickness and handguard is very effective for hard use. The sheath however is a let down- would have preferred a Cordura sheath which can go through water with you. The cord wrapped handle could have been given a rubberized coating instead of the cord.
