Get one for each vehicle
I keep one under the back seat for digging out of snow. Much of knife marketing centers on images of the knife owner in dramatic hand to hand combat. But when I get stuck in the snow, digging out is a very high priority and fending off attacks by Spetznatz or Bond Villains is not even on my list of concerns. I will never throw this shovel nor chop wood with it. But this is a fine little shovel, just the right size and shape for--wait for it--digging. The D handle is easy to grip. The blade is bent over so you can step on it if you need to. The blade has a slight scoop shape. It's big enough but not too big. And at Knifecenter's price it is a STEAL.

Fits The Bill
The Cold Steel Shovel is heavier duty but lacks the handle, which I think makes this more comfortable and convenient to use. The Cold Steel shovel advertises that you can throw it into a wooden target and it will stick - and I do not doubt it. But I do not plan to use my shovel that way. For $18 everyone ought to keep one in each car to shovel themselves out of a ditch, be it mud or snow.
