CRM2114: Carson M21-14
When a series like Kit Carson's aluminum-handled line has been so successful, it is bound to spark calls for variations. In this case, the request was for a deep-bellied spear point blade with recurve. CRKT calls the hefty M21-04 and M21-14 models with 3.875" blades, "Big Dogs."

The swedged and recurved blade is ground to a spear point shape, using premium AUS 8 stainless steel in a satin finish to offer superior edge retention. The grind incorporates a false top edge and deep belly, yet retains a full width central spine for most of its length for maximum strength.

Lubrous washers at the blade pivot assure velvety-smooth one-hand opening and closing, using Kit Carson's trademark dual checkered thumb studs which also act as a blade stop.

M21 models feature the very popular "Carson Flipper" blade extension, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.

Kit Carson's open build uses contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized charcoal gray. They are CNC machined with a perimeter radius for a comfortable grip with or without work gloves, skeletonized to reduce weight. There is a single stainless steel locking liner with friction grooves for positive locking.

It also features the automated liner safety. Automated liner safety is the locking liner safety innovation taken to the next level. The automated liner safety sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use.

To close the knife, pull the red buttoned safety lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position. Want one of the most secure safety systems on the market? The choice is automatic.

Every model features a removable stainless steel clothing/gear clip. All fasteners, including the clip screws, are Torx.

So there you have it. If you love the Carson line, but your work tasks demand a deep-bellied blade, the M21 is the series for you. Same premium build, same functional features, same long life, same excellent value.

Pros: Blade Material, Lock Ease of Use, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Handle Feel, Ease of Opening, Blade Sharpness
Cons: Lock Type, None
It's a great knife except...
that not only can the Auto LAWKS feature fail, the liner lock itself can fail if the back of the blade is tapped against something. It never quite closed on my hand, but it came closer than I like.

Great knife for the price.
I'm on my second M21 big dog. I've been carrying this knife for about four years total as an essential piece of EDC great. My only gripe with this knife has ever been the pocket clip. The clip will snag occasionally, when it does it usually has to be bent back into shape. Or the clip screws will loosen up over time if you don't put thread locker on them, which is how I lost my first blade. Other than that, I love the heft, the blade profile, the locking system, and the fit and finish. This is a great tool for the price. I would recommend it to anyone.

Great budget EDC knife
This is a decently large knife. If you're a big guy with big hands, it won't seem like too much knife for an EDC knife. I carried one daily for about 2 years. I love the handle. Very rigid and stout, and contoured very well. The Carson style flipper works as intended. Opens very quick and smoothly, and with some force due to the heavy blade. Blade lock-up is extremely tight - better than expected given it's price point, and honestly it's just as good as my $200 ZT knife. Biggest room for improvement is blade material. AUS8 is OK. My edge has resisted dents, chips, and rust very well, but it does dull easily and will require sharpening often. That's really my only gripe with this knife.
