CRM2114: Carson M21-14
When a series like Kit Carson's aluminum-handled line has been so successful, it is bound to spark calls for variations. In this case, the request was for a deep-bellied spear point blade with recurve. CRKT calls the hefty M21-04 and M21-14 models with 3.875" blades, "Big Dogs."

The swedged and recurved blade is ground to a spear point shape, using premium AUS 8 stainless steel in a satin finish to offer superior edge retention. The grind incorporates a false top edge and deep belly, yet retains a full width central spine for most of its length for maximum strength.

Lubrous washers at the blade pivot assure velvety-smooth one-hand opening and closing, using Kit Carson's trademark dual checkered thumb studs which also act as a blade stop.

M21 models feature the very popular "Carson Flipper" blade extension, which aids opening and acts as an additional blade guard.

Kit Carson's open build uses contoured handles of 6061 T6 aluminum, hard anodized charcoal gray. They are CNC machined with a perimeter radius for a comfortable grip with or without work gloves, skeletonized to reduce weight. There is a single stainless steel locking liner with friction grooves for positive locking.

It also features the automated liner safety. Automated liner safety is the locking liner safety innovation taken to the next level. The automated liner safety sets a pin between the locking liner and the frame. This pin acts as an additional layer of safety, so the locking liner is less likely to disengage during use.

To close the knife, pull the red buttoned safety lever back, slide the locking liner over, and fold the blade into the closed position. Want one of the most secure safety systems on the market? The choice is automatic.

Every model features a removable stainless steel clothing/gear clip. All fasteners, including the clip screws, are Torx.

So there you have it. If you love the Carson line, but your work tasks demand a deep-bellied blade, the M21 is the series for you. Same premium build, same functional features, same long life, same excellent value.

A Superb Value
The Carson flipper design is the best non-assisted flipper available. And this example is no exception, the blade practically flies out of the handle with little effort. I have several M-16 & M-21 models and they all preform flawlessly. The blade arrived shaving sharp as I have come to expect from CRKT. Unlike some designers, Carson has made sure the clip is mountable in any of the four commonly encountered positions, including the safer, faster and more secure "tip-down" that some seem to have forsaken. Certainly it's a lot easier to stick the clip on the end of the knife without a pivot, opening or locking mechanism, but tip-up only is really a cop out and I won't buy any knife that only carries that way.The M-21 is a large knife and offers a large section of serrations for tough cutting and sawing as well as a generous portion of smooth edge for finer work. As I have large hands, the size gives me more to hold on to. The knife will cleave through most everything you might want to cut with little effort. I only wish that CRKT offered this (and several others) with G-10 or FRN scales. I'm not fond of metal handles and synthetics offer comfort and textures that prevent slipping in the hand, imperative for safe usage. Yes, I know there are some synthetic scaled versions offered, but for some reason the triple-point serration combo blade is not offered in many models (I find the Veff serrations to be wholly useless). If the smooth aluminum scales don't bother you, this is a fantastic knife and at reasonable price.

The whole-package flipper
Getting this knife on the recent discount, I was more than happy when it arrived. It compliments my M21 as a good bigger brother. A bit heavy on the opening and closing but with the extra weight, this is expected and not a drawback in my opinion.
