CS13TL: 13TL Warcraft Tanto
Cold Steel
Cold Steel has brought out some very creative tantos through the years and this Warcraft series is no exception. These are well made and feature CPM 3V as the blade material. Crucible Industries, the American manufacturer of this steel, describes it as follows: "The wear and toughness properties of CPM 3V make it an excellent alternative to shock-resistant steels such as S7 or A9, where they typically wear out too quickly, but where grades such as A2, CruWear, or CPM M4 tend to fail by breaking or chipping. CPM 3V offers the highest impact toughness of any tool steel with this range of wear resistance"
We're just glad that Cold Steel is still bringing out fantastic products with amazing design and materials. Here is Cold Steel's description of the product:
Lynn C Thompson has championed the awesome power of the Tanto for over 30 years. A pioneer in modern Tanto design, Lynn developed Tantos that could not only provide amazing cutting and piercing power, but perform a brutal snap cut too, making lightning fast, versatile and powerful knives that were met with great critical acclaim and widespread popularity, particularly with the Military who appreciated their robust and reliable design coupled with superior fighting functionality.

But, unlike many designers who rest upon their laurels, Lynn continued to explore, research and refine his designs, looking for ways to make better and better products. Over the next three decades Lynn has developed a wide variety of Tantos, and the Warcraft Tanto (the first in our series of Warcraft blades) embodies his very latest thoughts and ideas regarding this truly inspiring blade shape.

The Warcraft Tanto's blade is noticeably thicker than many of the knives on the market today. With it's tough reinforced tip, elegantly curved cutting edge and sturdy one-piece construction, it is designed to soak up punishment while delivering unprecedented performance.

Made from high quality, expertly heat treated, sub zero quenched American CPM 3-V steel, the Warcraft Tanto's blade features a stout flat ground primary cutting edge and a chisel ground secondary blade bevel, both hand sharpened to hair popping sharpness. The intersection of these two blade bevels (The Yakote) forms a wickedly effective secondary point that allows for a devastating snap cut.

The Warcraft Tanto is then DLC coated – Our DLC (Diamond Like Coating) is not only highly rust and scratch resistant but reduces glare and minimizes friction when cutting while making the blade incredibly hard.

During the testing process for this knife our R&D team left a prototype exposed to the elements deep in the Pennsylvania woods. After 3 months the blade was immaculate!

Its perfectly balanced taper-ground full tang is encased in 3D machined American G10 scales. Comfortable and secure in hand, it's equally at home as a reliable workhorse or life-saving combat knife.

Complete with our ever popular Secure-Ex sheath (now compatible with Tek-Lok belt adaptors to facilitate concealed carry under a coat or jacket) , the Warcraft Tanto is rugged, dependable and as powerful as it is beautiful.

Perfect. No, really it is.
I wont keep you long. First of all, Knifecenter were fantastic at every step of the way in getting my package to me. A massive thanks to you all. Right, this knife. I've seen reviews that seperate the blade features from those of the handle but with this you can't - it feels for all the world like one piece - an extension of your hand. This size is probably weighted to be slightly blade heavy because there is a lot of steel up front but it still balances incredibly well. Because of this you feel in control of the long blade at all times, wether using it for fine work or for battoning the hell out of a stubborn log. It just does everything incredibly easilly. I've tried lots of steel in the past to varying degrees of success but this 3v is truly amazing. It hasn't folded, chipped or lost edge. I remain quite stunned by the performance. Congratulations CS.

I bet your wondering what I meant by "Tactival" It is fusion of the words Tactical and Survival, because those are the two applications this knife melds. Predominately a combat knife by appearance and marketing, this blade has aspects that make it an amazing chopper and wood-splitter. The blade stock is beefy enough for the batoning of wood, that the saber grind well accommodates, and you will notice the tang termination on the handle is much thinner than the blade itself. This acts to lend weight to the blade. So despite this being a light blade, the mere fact that has a blade heavy design detail makes it a super effective and wearyless chopper. NOTE: This is NOT blade heavy, but gripping it with only your thumb and index finger gives it the illusion that it is, and it makes it surprisingly effective at chopping. This knife covers all the bases, and in 3v, it will outlast. Bonus observation: You can notice an obvious handle similarity between this and the newer style Recon 1 folder. They have identical ergonomics. You can open the Recon 1 and place it into the Warcraft sheath and barely know the difference. With the new AK47 Field knife out now, which is the fixed blade version of the AK47, you can sense what Cold Steel might be trying to do. I believe, the Warcraft series is unofficially the fixed blade version of the Recon 1. The Warcraft is the perfect sister blade to the AK47 Field. Buy them both and complete "Team 3V."

I was excited when I heard about this knife and even more excited when I ordered one. I must have checked on the shipping every hour waiting for it to arrive inbetween watching the extreme testing videos from cold steel, which only made it worse waiting! I wasn't disappointed!! I cant say enough about it, the secure ex sheath holds the blade firmly in place and has plenty of lashing points. I personally like the offset feel when handling the knife which has great G10 scale handles. The main selling point of coarse is the amazing high end CPM 3V steel tanto blade which has a beautiful tungsten DLC finish. The only complaint I have is I've had bald arms for weeks showing off my warcraft tanto to friends and family!!! Can I also just thank all the team at Although I live in scotland is my fist choice! I cant recommend you enough. 1st class products from a 1st class company! Thanks guys!
