CS53SDS: 53SDS Spike Scottish
Cold Steel
The Spike, designed by Barry Dawson, is a weapon pared down to its bare essentials. Its thick, narrow blade is distal tapered and flat ground to a zero edge. This creates a unique cross section that facilitates both penetration of the tip and cutting power previously unknown in such a thick, narrow blade. The integral handle of the spike complements its minimalist theme. It has been carefully shaped out of solid steel, wrapped with cord and had all of its sharp edges "melted" so they don't irritate the hand. Each spike comes with a sturdy Secure-Ex sheath and steel bead lanyard so you can wear it around your neck or lash it to a "D" ring, fanny pack, or other gear.

Cold Steel could do better
I really don't like to give bad reviews, but I am not happy with this knife at all. I knew that it was made of cheap 420 steel, but I bought it anyway. There is no edge on this whatsoever. I can run my thumb across the edge with considerable force and not even get a scratch. When I tried to cut a thin cord, the tip folded over as it passed! I'm not talking about paracord either. I was shorting the drawstring on venetian blinds. I understand that this is primarily a stabbing design, but in reality, the blade is too short to stop someone on meth or pcp. I haven't measured it, but I doubt it is over 3 in long. While the sheath holds the knife securely, the throat is so bulky that the entire package shows underneath my shirt. The sheath has a couple slots, but they are too small for a belt to pass through (unless you use baling twine as a belt). While this has not turned me off on Cold Steel, I don't think this knife is worth the price. Maybe ten bucks.
