Includes a 1 ounce bar of Flexcut Gold Polishing Compound designed to adhere to the strop by rubbing the bar on the leather surface of the strop.

OK for beginners - otherwise just trash
I am new to knives. I wanted a strop but didn't want to buy an expensive one so added this to my order. The wood is very light and has been died brown very untidily. Also the leather is very thin. It came with vague instructions on the back but they weren't much use - the compound is very hard and felt as though it would tear away half of the leather because it is so thin, maybe this is because it was cold on the aeroplane (I live in the UK). I stropped a carbon knife a couple of times without any compound. It already left a grey smudge - much sooner than expected. I then added the compound, when it mixes with the metal on the leather it produces a green paste and i'm not sure what to make of it. It's probably normal but hasn't spread too evenly yet.This strop is suitable if you just want to try stropping, but if you are serious about it then don't even consider this

very light wood and very thin leather but amazingly effective. I have used it on over 2 dozen knives in the last few weeks and it polishes the edges to literally razor sharp very quickly. I have done the same with other leather and this is my first pre-built strop but it works so much quicker than I expected. Most of the knives have been 440c or similar metals or something softer so have not yet tried it with high-carbon blades. I am worried about the durability and I see tiny pieces of leather grain fall away quite frequently but it continues to hold up nicely.I only gave 4 stars because I use it on folders and fixed-blades of over 3 inches when it was designed for smaller woodcarving tools so not really a reflection of the product as much as for my particular needs.It is a little smaller than expected because the logo takes up a good inch of the overall length but not really a problem.
