1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Stainless Steel knife handles provide strength and durability and look and feel great.

Pros: Sheath/Scabbard, Materials, Overall Quality, Weight, Blade Material
Cons: None
Almost a home-run for KA-BAR; is if you don't have big hands.
Out of the factory, the edge was quite dull but was quick to sharpen up and has great retention. The sheath is of decent quality and does NOT have glass fibers in the plastic, so it will not dull your knife. KA-BAR learned from that mistake. My only complaint is that without wrapping the handle in paracord, the handle is a bit hard to get a hold of. The length of the handle is good for medium to small hands, it is just thin. I personally can get four fingers wrapped around it and am a man with medium sized hands. If you have large hands, you may wish to look elsewhere unless you're okay with your pinky hanging off. Wrapping the knife with paracord and leaving a loop for your pinky might work well. I use this knife as an EDC/defensive knife and either wear it around my neck or keep it in my back pocket. It is very concealable and very comfortable, although I would check with the laws in your area before carrying.

Pros: None
Cons: Sheath/Scabbard, Blade Sharpness
I expected far better out of a small version of a marine corps fighting knife. the handle is far too small to get a decent grip and the point at the back top edge digs into the palm. It's as if they designed it simply to look cool and not be useful. There is no cross guard so there is nothing to stop your fingers from sliding onto the blade in a strong thrust. On top of all this the sheath has the same dulling issues as the Eskabar sheath. The glass fibers dull the knife quickly and this was a known issue on the eskabar and they repeated the stupid error on this sheath. Since it is known the glass fibers abrade the metal they could have simply made the sheath grind on it in a way that sharpened it rather than dulled it. Come on Kabar, you can do better
