KS1560BW: Blackwash Whirlwind
Kershaw Knives

Get your hands on a Whirlwind and you won’t want to let go. This one will be your constant companion whether you’re on the jobsite, working in the garage, or doing chores around the house. The first thing you’ll notice is how this big handful of a knife nestles into your palm.

The ergonomic design and the tough, glass-filled nylon handle scales provide a grip that's comfortable, secure, and ensures that you’re always in control of the cut. Next, of course, you’ll want to try out the razor-sharp blade. Just push on the thumbstud and—twack!—the SpeedSafe assisted opening mechanism moves the blade out of the handle and it locks securely into place, ready for use.

The blade is a classic drop-point, perfect for handling a wide range of tasks—pretty much anything you care to throw at it. The blade steel is high-performance 14C28N. Developed in a partnership between Kershaw and Sandvik Steel, it offers excellent corrosion resistance, hardness, and edge retention. In fact, Sandvik considers this the highest-performance steel available that can still be fine-blanked. We would have to agree. But the only way you’re going to know for yourself is to get a Whirlwind of your own.

Fantastic Value
For what I paid for this knife - I am very happy. The handle, although a bit large, is very grippy - which is what I want in a folder. The knife came super sharp and absolutely serves its purpose for me. Tough to find a USA made folder at this price.

blade +, handle -
I was really excited to purchase this knife. First off, USA made which is great. The overall look of the knife is good and I do love the Blackwash blade. It was sharp out of the box. But for the money, I do have to say I was disappointed. The handle is the WORST of any Kershaw knife I've owned. It is thick (a little over 1/2") and the Polyimide handle is really cheap. I wasn't expecting too much out of the scales when I ordered the knife, but I am more disappointed than I thought I would be. The assisted opening on this knife (and I know it varies from knife to knife) is also pretty slow. I will still carry this knife from time to time because I do like the blade shape, size and appearance, but I won't be making it my EDC knife. I guess I just don't get how Kershaw (Ken Onion) could design a good looking knife and then give it the worst handle scales ever.
