Kershaw Knives
The Thermite and the Scrambler are great Kershaw models...great prices, great designs, and great quality. The addition of blackwash to the blade finish give these patterns a really cool profile, almost a menacing look. However you describe it, you're gonna like carrying it, and using it, for a long time!
The Kershaw Thermite, designed by Rick Hinderer, was introduced last year and has been in-demand ever since.

Now we’re giving it a new look with our BlackWash finish. BlackWash gives a knife that already-broken-in look—like a favorite well-worn pair of jeans. The coating provides an extra measure of protection for the metal, and the BlackWash helps hide any additional scratches you may put on the knife during normal use.

What doesn’t change is the Thermite’s tactical styling and practical performance. Rick Hinderer and Kershaw designed it to give users Rick Hinderer's no-nonsense functionality—but with enough style to be an exceptionally eye-catching knife. BlackWash just makes it more so.

The 3.5-in. blade is hollow-ground, providing excellent slicing ability. A flat-ground “spanto” tip offers strong piercing and even prying capabilities. A machined G-10 front scale and a heavily textured backspacer add to the Thermite's striking looks. On the practical side, the back handle is stainless steel with a frame lock and lockbar stabilizer for an always-secure lockup.

For easy opening, the Thermite is equipped with SpeedSafe, which can be accessed with the ambidextrous flipper or thumbstud. Kershaw’s four-position deep-carry pocketclip offers complete carrying versatility.
  • SpeedSafe® - Assists you to open any SpeedSafe® knife quickly and easily with a manual push on the thumbstud or pull back on the flipper; built into many Kershaw best sellers.
  • Flipper - May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
  • Frame Lock - A portion of the handle (the knife frame) moves behind the blade to lock it into position during use. This is a safety feature of the knife.
  • Quad-Carry - The user may position the pocketclip for tip-up or tip-down, left- or right-handed carry.
  • SpeedSafe assisted opening
  • Frame lock with lockbar stabilizer

Cons: Lock Type, Overall Quality
Great deal on this one
I did not realize before purchasing that this knife only had the G-10 scale on one side, and at first this bothered me a little, but after carrying and using it for a little while, it doesn't any more. I am right handed so the scales are on the correct side. This might be a problem for you lefties, though. Really slim profile, which is one of the knife's best features, overall. Super easy to carry all day. The handle is plenty long enough and while not that wide, still fits my hand very nicely. The jimping is in just the right place for standard usage as well as for more detailed work. Blade sharpness out of the box is certainly serviceable, but not the sharpest I've run across. I really like the blackwash finish, which is continued on the back. Really easy to open with the flipper. Really difficult to open with the thumbstuds, so those are kind of extraneous. The liner lock only moves a short distance towards the center, and when open, you can essentially see that there is not much material there locking this knife. Also, there is a little bit of play in the blade mechanism. Those will keep this from being a 5-star for me, but overall I am quite happy with the purchase, especially for the price ($25!).

Great assisted opener EDC option.
Ordered this knife 2 months ago, as I was looking for a replacement for my EDC knife at the time, the excellent SpyderCo Persistence. I felt that the Persistence was lacking some traits that I was missing. The Kershaw Thermite fulfilled all my wishes and needs to the T. I'd previously owned an SOG Flash II, but lost it, and I'd started missing the AO functionality, but I needed something a bit bigger, more rugged, to feel confident about for personal protection, aswell as a knife I felt like I could trust to handle the everyday abuse my knives get. The Thermite is a rugged, quite big AO folder, and it gives you the feeling of true dependability. The build quality is great! The knife after 2 months of use, still locks up like a bank vault, and I've never had an issue with it. In my time of owning the knife, I've tightened the screw holding the blade once, as it felt a bit loose. After that, it's had no sideways play in open position ever since. Up and down play has never been an issue, it locks up solid. Also, the opening action is quick, fluid, and reliable. I've read some comments on it being a bit hard to open, but I really can't agree with that. The tightness some owners complain about, comes from the fact that it locks up securely when closed. I have tiny, kid-sized hands, and it took me just a few minutes to get the feel of how to open and close it without any snags. It came really sharp out of te box, and I'm utterly surprised of how well the steel both holds and edge, and takes a new edge whenever I freshen it up with my buck diamond rod, using only the finest grit plate. As I've stated, it's a quite large folder, so I am really happy about the pocket clip riding high, so the knife buries deep in my pockets. It allows for safe, covert carry, and you avoid the knife bumping into eg. cars if you're trying to squeeze out of your car in a car park. The clip is small, but easy to grip, and it comes really tight out of the box. I'd recommend bending it ever so slightly, to allow for easier access, and to avoid tearing your pants to extract it. But I really prefer that it's TIGHT to begin with, so I as the user get to adjust it to where I like it. That would've been much harder to accomplish had it been loose. To sum things up, I think this is a great knife, great value for money. It's been my favourite EDC ever, it's been in my pocket for 2 months and it's there to stay. Truly recommended product. On a sidenote, I'd like to thank knifecenter for their great site, prices, and service. I made a mistake filling out my info during checkout, but I quickly sent them a support ticket, and they got back to me within a few hours, everything sorted out just fine, thanks to their service.
