NIMTLP0807: MeteorLight K-9
Nite Ize
Nite Ize made the MeteorLight K-9 so all you night owls and night howls out there could have a ball in the dark.

Whether your schedule prevents you from exercising your canine buddy during the day, or you just prefer carousing with him or her at night, our tennis ball-sized MeteorLight K-9 LED Ball is the perfect exercise toy. Push the button, the LED light begins its steady glow, and you can both see what you're doing and have fun doing it. Perfect for romps in the yard after sundown, or, if you're both craving a little socialization, take it to the dog park at night, turn it on, and watch the interested human/dog crowd form around you both! Bright, durable, and water resistant, the MeteorLight floats and comes with two long-life, easily replaceable batteries.

SKU: MTLP-08-07

Does the MeteorLight fit in a Chuckit®?
Yes, it can be used in the Chuckit® and other commonly found ball-throwers. A note of warning: Please do not use in the higher velocity sling-shot like products. They may cause the ball assembly to come loose and damage the MeteorLight K-9 ball.

How do I turn the product on and off?
You turn the ball on and off by pressing and holding the button momentarily until flashing stops. We designed the switch to be quite firm, so it may be easier to push the button against the corner of a table or step on the ball to activate the on/off switch.

The LED housing and battery compartment sometimes falls out when I'm playing fetch with the ball. How can I keep that from happening?
The LED housing and battery compartment were designed to stay firmly inside the ball, however in a very small percentage of situations, a dog with a highly active salivary system may lubricate the housing and cause it to fall out of the ball. If you find this to be the case with your dog, you can clean the saliva off the ball every few throws to make sure the ball stays intact. Please also supervise your pet at all times when using the MeteorLight LED Ball.

What type of batteries does the MeteorLight use?
When your batteries get low, they can be replaced with two 3V Lithium 2016 coin-cell batteries.

Wonderful concept but needs a redesign for durability.
I had the same experience as another reviewer -internal mechanisms coming out of the ball during play and moisture subsequently damaging components. I have hesitated to replace it with another MeteorLight Ball. Perhaps a revision of the design would convince me to give it another try. My dog and I really enjoyed playing with it in the beginning when it was still intact and worked properly.

************* Please Read ************* … I know, reviews are a dime a dozen. (OK 1 penny / 100) We LOVE this dog toy. The dogs we house, LOVE ( !!!!! ) this toy. We’re in the Eastern US and this time of year we would be outside w/ flashlights trying to focus our high-energy Boys on the ball. What a nightmare! We would ruin their night vision with inadvertent flashes of the high power lamp, and what a chore for us, trying to track the flight of the ball we just threw… The Night Ize ball was/is the PERFECT answer…. EXCEPT ! ! ! ! Our boy Eli (a 5 Yr. old Yellow Lab) is a CHOMPER ! ! He’ll readjust the ball during his carry of the ball ~100 times during his retrieval. This has resulted 4 times now, in his separating the components of the ball into their 6 individual (5 - swallow-able) parts. We have been fortunate in that he has not YET swallowed the Plug, Cradle, Circuit board, or either of the 2 batteries. His 4th incident with our 1st ball resulted in several of the components spending 3 days on the lawn because the batteries separated from the Circuit board, making component retrieval nearly impossible. We believe the dew/frost destroyed the first circuit board. With the recent order of 2 Night Ize balls we’ve “super-glued” the plug in place to alleviate this potential problem. But the simple action of actuating the light feature, combined with the “super-slick” nature of the surface of the product, has resulted in another defeat of the sealing mechanism of the plug, and us having several components spread over our lawn, fortunately none were swallowed. I’ve learned after the first incident to check the seating of the plug between each throw, but it only takes one retrieve to unseat all the parts, creating a potential choke hazard. I believe Night Ize needs to update the plug to include maybe a “Screw-feature” where a simple canine tooth, set deeply enough, cannot turn the wonderful toy it is, into a potentially harmful/fatal playtime experience. Again… We LOVE this dog toy. The dogs we house, LOVE ( !!!!! ) this toy… But my heart drops each tine the lamp extinguishes during retrieval and I have to fear what if any, parts have been swallowed/lodged in our dog’s throat.
