1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Zytel Handles
Zytel Handles
A nylon polymer that is lightweight and extremely durable, Zytel can be shaped and textured to provide excellent grip.

Pros: Overall Quality, Finish, Weight, Blade Material
Cons: None
durable, handy tool
This is used in the field for getting through brush to inspect poles. It is also secondarily a protection device. But I don't think it's been used that way except to scare an animal. This comes in a condition that's good enough for cutting through vines and weeds. It fits well beside the door so it is easy to get on leaving the vehicle.

Cons: Weight
Way too heavy
Its too heavy. Thinner latin made machetes are much easier to use and just as tough. I cut my Ontario down to 14" and its now usable.

Pros: Weight, None
Cons: Sheath/Scabbard
Would be a great buy, but needs a sheath
I have not used this item yet, so I cannot rate that aspect. However, the machete seems very strong. Bought on a wholesale basis by the manufacturer, a sheath would be quite cheap and should be included, or at least offered at a reasonable price to the retail customer. Just handing someone a large machete with no protective cover for storage seems a bit tone deaf from a retailing standpoint.
