Nice brush buster
I am very pleased with this knife as a trail maintaining tool. I have used several different short machete type knives that work, but all have been of a pretty flat grind configuration. This is fine for soft green stuff, but throw in some hedge trees and other woody stuff and the flat blades end up with bent edge sections that must be worked on before re-using. The saber edge is more ax-like and takes impressive bites out of the tough woody stuff. I like the racy lines of the knife too. Another home run from OKC!.

Large and In Charge
A large knife is lighter is most cases than an axe. And will perform other tasks to boot! The designer, Dan Maragni, has called this knife a, "sharp hammer". Indeed it is. The 'Saber Grind' leaves the heft behind the edge for added weight and power. See Bill McGrath video on youtube comparing the sp53 and sp52. I use this on trips where I need to split wood to start a fire. What I would really like is a great sheath to compliment the great thought that went into this blade!
