Great camping knife
I use this knife for backwoods camping in lieu of an ax or hatchet. It works very well for that, I was able to baton off wet out wood to get to dry wood inside with ease (and that was my first time batoning anything). The hammer kinda thing on the pommel doesn't work great but the side of the blade worked well. Quarter of an inch thick, feels indestructible.

Cons: Weight
It is hard to sharpen, but it's an easy fix.
I use this knife for camping/survival and I love this knife. It's 1/4" thick. You could chop, baton, and pry with this knife and won't hurt it. The blade is hard to sharpen due to the curve, but it's easy with a ceramic rod. Just hold the rod against a hard secure surface, and scrape the blade down the rod. Repeat for the other side and voila, you have a razor sharp blade. The finish is nice...but, it WILL wear off. Expect that. The sheath is also adequate, but I replaced it with a Spec-Ops Jump Sheath. It fits fine. Overall, great knife. Oh, almost forgot, it's also heavy for it's size, so expect that too.

Good Utility and Combat Knifie
The Ranger NS-7 is a great knife with many uses. The recurve style of blade is effective at most cutting and chopping tasks. Though I still believe that it can't really compare to a bowie knife for chopping ability. The sheath is well crap, it is to big for the knife. It most be for the NS-9 or other large Ranger knives. Also you may have to heat the plastic insert if you want the sheath to have some hold on the blade, and the velcro strap doesn't work very well. The handle to me seems good, but most people who have large hands hate it, though yes the micarta handles do require gloves. One more thing is that the finish on the blade will wear off pretty easily, after only a little batoning the finish started to wear off. Overall a good knife (except for the sheath) and I would recommend this knife to anyone looking for a good sized utility/combat knife. And I forgot to say that I would have no fear with using this knife as a pry bar.
