These knives are designed in the field and built to be used in the field. No bells and whistles, just straight forward cutlery that works, whether it's in the middle of a jungle or the blazing sun of the desert. RAT knives are used and carried by outdoorsmen and military professionals worldwide, including U.S. Forces in Iraq and Afghanistan. 1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Nylon Sheath

WAY BEYOND EXPECTATIONS!!!
This is one fantastic knife! It truly is quality through and through. The knife is perfectly balanced. The blade is razor sharp, it has held an edge through some heavy use and the coating has not chipped. I am very impressed with the linen/micarta handle. It is very comfortable, won't slip and despite a ton of chopping, little shock transferred to my hand. The BEST thing about this blade is... it is made right here, in the good old USA! The sheath is functional, nothing to write home about... I got a great leather sheath made exclusively for the RAT5.

This is a quality knife through and through! The knife is well balanced, the blade is superb and the handle is comfortable and fits my hand perfectly. The blade holds an edge like no other knife I have owned and it is easy to hone the blade back to razor sharp. This knife is well made and it gives me the confidence to use it without fear of it failing. The sheath is functional but I didn't buy the knife for the sheath, I bought it because of the fantastic reviews and that it is made in the USA. The finish is fantastic! I have already been giving the knife a real workout and the finish has not chipped or marred. I honestly can not find fault with this beautifully designed and crafted blade!

Too Nice
This was a gift, and my experienced deer hunting friend says the Rat 5 is too nice to use, almost. He loves it, pointing out all the little extras the knife and sheath offer. With big hands, the Rat 5 is his kind of knife. Having bought 9 Ontario products for gifts and for myself, I can say that I do not regret purchasing any of them.
