1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Zytel Handles

Solid knife once sharpened, Blunt as all hell out of the box...
I dont know if I just have some guy who hates Ontario working shift when I order knives from these guys but out of their SP1 Combat and this SP2 Air Force Survival, both have arrived so blunt I cant even cut envelopes with them from the box. Took me a good 2 hours to grind enough away to make a serviceable hair cutting edge but of course by then you've ruined some of the finish and the aesthetic whilst not pleasing, at least its functional and after sharpening was a solid knife. I also dont mind this type of sheath they have for these knives and the clipping buttons and rivets that hold them are sturdy and well made, though apparently many people dont like this type of sheath. Considering my KABAR arrived so sharp out of the box I could cut my finger just by looking at it the wrong way (I joke but it would slice through newspaper only under its own weight, a feat in itself) I feel like Ontario could step it up a notch or at least quality control better or fire the guy I always seem to have on sharpening duty the day I order from them.

Great for the price!
This Is used on my property for most part, but is great camping and hiking with, it holds an edge well. Some complain of the edge, it is a thick piece of steel and takes patience to hone to razor edge and is for hard use and a sharper edge is not "always" wanted in a rough use knife as the edge gets damaged easier, another thing complained about is the sawtooth on back....it was NOT meant to "saw" branches in half, it's for survival needs, like putting notches in wood for lashing a shelter together, making snares ect. The sheath is not great but very functionable. For the price you sure can not go wrong for an American made product of good quality that should last a lifetime. I have two of them. Use them as they were designed and it will serve you well.
