1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.

Pros: Materials, Overall Quality, Weight, Blade Material, None
Cons: Handle Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Blade Sharpness
Excellent Knife
This is not an Old Hickory knife. The difference is the Old Hickory line are drop forged knives, while this knife is stamped steel. The manufacturer calls this an "Ontario Knife" to differentiate it from the Old Hickory line. It is a modest difference, as the steel appears to be the same, but it must be mentioned nevertheless. This knife is thinner than the Old Hickory knives, but just as good a value if you like a light kitchen knife that can do double duty as an outstanding outdoor knife. This one comes relatively unsharpened, but because of its thinness and flexibility, it is very quick and easy to sharpen. Seal the wood with either Tung Oil, Varnish, Gun Stock Oil or Linseed Oil, and you should have a trouble free knife.
