QAQTR6TT: Quartermaster Knives QTRMSTR QTR-6TT Texas Tea Orville "Rick" Wright
The Orville "Rick" Wright is easily the most EDC-able model in our present lineup. Its size, blade shape, ease-of opening and overall feel make it a perfect candidate for daily carry. The construction and assembly are based on QTRMSTR's "less hardware, less repair" theory of design. The handle and frame sides are secured around the pivoting blade by nothing but their Tri-Spoke Pivot Assembly & two oversized chain-ring bolts. The blade style, traditional in some senses—its shape is utilitarian, known as a drop-point. It’s dual thumb studs give you the touch you need when blind and help to get that steel where you’ll need it, fast. The machining of the G-10 scale is unique to the QTRMSTR brand. Its tough to develop a pattern that’s unique in knives these days, but they’ve achieved it with this piece. Finally, the flipper device doubles as a finger guard, it moves the blade into position with an intuitive “flick” with the help of the ORB®. An amazingly solid knife at every angle.

About the ORB® Pivot System:

The ORB® Pivot System is a sealed ball-bearing technology that is widely considered the second generation of an open-bearing system that is being used by some manufacturers today.

The ORB’s advantages are plenty: dirt and pocket lint cannot impede the track of these rollers, they’re encased. The ball-bearing system tightens the tolerances in and around the pivot of the folding knife, as a result the lock-up is vault tight, yet the rollers allow for almost effortless rotation.

The lack of ‘play’ at any point on the rotational axis of the blade is truly unlike anything currently being made at this price point in the United States.

About the Tri-Spoke Pivot Assembly:

A single thread weaves its way through every corner of the knife industry: the desire to be original. To author some form, to create something unique and memorable lives at the desk of every designer throughout our profession.

QTRMSTR's signature, at the present point on their timeline is the Tri-Spoke Pivot® Assembly. At the heart of the Tri-Spoke Pivot assembly is the T10 Torx slot, but the science around the perimeter is what’s most interesting. By engineering their own unique hardware and implementing the component as an oversized pivot, they allow our folding knives to distribute the force of assembly over a larger area, allowing the knife to pivot at the same speed throughout its smooth rotation. The results are stunning to say the least.

Cons: None
Grab it before it's gone
This knife is everything I thought it would be and more. Apart from it being such an eye catcher, the feel in the hand is very comfortable; all of your fingers can wrap around it. The blade is very sharp, the pocket clip is secure and not too tight where you'd need to loosen it. Once you get used to it, the flipper and a little snap of the wrist and wallah, it opens seamlessly and locks up with a nice sounding "click". The blade is near perfectly centered as well. Most quality knives will last a lifetime, this will last two. It's extremely heavy duty. The Orville is built like in the old days when they made beautiful cars to last ('70 Chevelle SS, '67 Pontiac GTO, etc.) If you think you can open this with one hand using just the thumb studs, think again. Since it's so well made, it doesn't want to move without some effort; that's what you rely on the flipper for.

Will tackle anything you throw at it or anything you throw it at!!
I got this knife for work, mainly because its seriously bomb proof / fairly small for edc ,but big enough / pivot has a sealed bearing race, which will help keep clean with my job. Not everyones cup of tea, bit like something off a MAD MAX film but is really impressive. Blade flies open with the flipper [with a slight wrist flick], blade bang on central , no unwanted play at all,and did come quite sharp although i did take the studs off and put it on my wicked edge[this will now shave EASILY] and put studs back on. I normally remove pocket clips but have left that on as well[looks cool and comfy] Nice clunk on deployment as well...All in all very impressed.
