QAQTR8PP: QTR-8 John Quayle "Higgins" III Pre-Production
Affectionately known as “Higgins” the straight-shooter, no-nonsense. Ever. QTRM5TR used a frame lock design on this model, but due to the length of the blade & lock-tang, they placed an overlay piece on the lock side. This block functions similar to a ‘doorstop’ preventing overextension of the lockbar and adds a bit of grippability to the frame side. No matter how much outward force is applied, because of our “rogue block” the lock may never be rendered ‘over-extended’ and ineffective. The blade is an American-style tanto with a finger-guard that sees double duty as a flipper device. Finally when the knife is open, it reveals its symmetry and has ideal 4-corner lashing points using the hollowed chain ring bolts at the base of the handle and the through-holes at the base of the blade. A true tactical tool: hard, fast, sharp, ready for the world and more.
About the ORB® Pivot System:
The ORB® Pivot System is a sealed ball-bearing technology that is widely considered the second generation of an open-bearing system that is being used by some manufacturers today.
The ORB’s advantages are plenty: dirt and pocket lint cannot impede the track of these rollers, they’re encased. The ball-bearing system tightens the tolerances in and around the pivot of the folding knife, as a result the lock-up is vault tight, yet the rollers allow for almost effortless rotation.
The lack of ‘play’ at any point on the rotational axis of the blade is truly unlike anything currently being made at this price point in the United States.
About the Tri-Spoke Pivot Assembly:
A single thread weaves its way through every corner of the knife industry: the desire to be original. To author some form, to create something unique and memorable lives at the desk of every designer throughout our profession.
QTRM5TR's signature, at the present point on their timeline is the Tri-Spoke Pivot® Assembly. At the heart of the Tri-Spoke Pivot assembly is the T10 Torx slot, but the science around the perimeter is what’s most interesting. By engineering their own unique hardware and implementing the component as an oversized pivot, they allow our folding knives to distribute the force of assembly over a larger area, allowing the knife to pivot at the same speed throughout its smooth rotation. The results are stunning to say the least.
