Not a Compromise Hatchet
My favorite hatchet is the Condor Greenland Pattern Axe. I do not take it with me backpacking b/c it is just too heavy. This is no lighter although it is shorter. It is built like a tank and I plan to put it through a full test before July 4th. There is a real quality feel through and through. The fire steel works great. I did use my dremmel and put a burr in the underside of the blade.
