SCHOTF3: Extreme Survival 3rd Gen OTF Viper, Plain Satin
Schrade brand knives have so many models - but they are cleverly designed, well made and really economical. These Out-the-Front openers are super fast and well made. They have a safety on the side and the mechanism takes a little getting used to, but they are truly awesome and impressive. The 3rd Generation Out the Front Assist model is no exception. It's got a 3.5" double edge spear point blade, tough aluminum handles, and a locking safety mechanism.

Great knife
This knife is very easy to use and functions really well. When it came the fit and finish was perfect. The knife comes really sharp out of the box. The lockup is incredible tight. All and all... This is one of them knifes your going to find yourself playing with all the time.

An OK knife for the money...
This is not a horrible knife for what you pay for the item. It fires hard, which for a single action OTF it should. Lock up is excellent for an OTF with minimal bald play. The handle scales are not ergonomic yet not terribly uncomfortable but frankly are more for show than practicality. There is an overly stiff (better than too flexible/ loss) deep carry pocket clip, and a purpose built low quality glass breaker (because I doubt there's a diamond or carbadized tip on it). I was disappointed to realize that the finish on the handle is not quality anodizing, but a rather cheap paint which, coming from Taiwan, at this price, I wouldn't be surprised if it contained lead, as evidenced by the products' cancer warning found in the box when you get your knife from the manufacturer, which I presume is issued by the State of California as the label specifically says; "Warning: This product contains chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm." However no official seal or signature et c can be seen on this warning... However as a precautionary measure I personally wash my hands after use of this knife. The operation is reasonably smooth for what you pay for. However as you continue to use the knife and deploy it, the wear on the mechanism doesn't take long to affect the knife. You'll find that as time goes by, when the blade is retracted back into the handle, the locking mechanism will partially engage the safety which is enough to render the knife inoperable until it is fully disengaged again. For those who want to use this knife in a defensive tactical role, keep this in mind, it could be a deal breaker for you. So if the possible potential cancer risk, or the wear affecting the operation doesn't bother you, then this may be a real option for a defensive blade which is what I use it for other than a fun toy to bring out once in a while and play with the mechanism.
