SOG18PE: Pentagon Elite II

Since its debut, the Pentagon Elite series has achieved great popularity among the military and law enforcement community, as well as the general marketplace. The Pentagon Elite knives are impeccably balanced and feature ergonomic glass and Kevlar-reinforced Zytel handles, ambidextrous slotted thumb studs, machine screw construction, a low-reflective bead-blasted blade and clip, SOG’s Arc-Lock system, and a reversible military-style clip that enhances gripping. Spearheading the Pentagon Elite is a shark tooth tip that increases point strength.

The Arc-Lock

The Arc-Lock just might be the perfect lock. Why? It is totally ambidextrous and has all of the attributes knife designers relentlessly search for, but rarely find.

The Arc-Lock far surpasses conventional lock strength, tested at over 1000 lbs of force measured at the lock in an independent lab test.

The Arc-Lock provides lightning-quick, one-handed opening and closing capability.

Spring-action securely retains the blade closed. When unlocking, the fingers are safely kept clear.

The Arc-Lock is self-adjusting over time and can be easily cleaned for long term optimal performance.

Pros: Pocket Clip, Blade Sharpness, Handle Feel, Weight, Ease of Opening, None
Cons: Blade Material
good, but could be better!
Good knife but not corrosion resistant in the least, I regularly have to clean, lube the blade. always has rust spots that need to be cleaned off just from being in the open air. Other than that its a good knife, well balanced, easy to open and use...

Good knife - reliable and fair
This was the first pocket knife of this size to buy for me. I was cautious at first, but it's plain and simple looks did it for me. So, what did I get? A great knife indeed. Extremely solid build and - unless other reviewers noticed - extremely sharp right out of the box. A great tool for some special outdoor, army or ... event. But on the other side: it is large and heavy. Has a belt clip, but still: You cannot just easily carry this knife with you. After all that is said: Don't regret buying this knife - it's great, but not my number one piece.

poor clip design
I have had this knife for about 1.5 years, mostly for wilderness carry (northern British Columbia). Fit and finish were fine, I would have preferred a g-10 handle (zytel is slippery when covered in fish/moose blood). This blade style was interesting but less useful. I would prefer the newer style if I were to buy it again. My biggest issue is with the clip. Due to the large size of the knife (for a folder) and the peculiar cut-outs of the clip (notice how much material is removed from the pocket clip) I have had 2 clips break on me. They catch on things and because there is so much knife in the pocket and the clip is weak they bend/break very easily. I have similar experiences with the Vaquero Grande from Cold Steel. My Benchmade 710, 940 and 110 all never had this problem. Overall a decent knife, relatively cheap, but I would go for a different blade style, and request extra pocket clips when buying it. Also, the locking mechanism does not hold up to throwing (not that it should)... K
