Description
SP123CFBAP: C123CFBAP Sage 3 Black Cubic Check Carbon Fiber/G10 Laminate
Spyderco

Spyderco’s Sage series is a family of folding knives that honors the pioneering designers of our industry. Every member of the Sage family features a flat-ground, leaf-shaped CPM S30V blade, an ergonomic handle design with textured forefinger choil and thumb ramp, and a reversible tip-up wire
clip. Each Sage showcases a specific lock mechanism paying homage to the trendsetting knifemaker or designer who invented it. Proceeds from the sale of every Sage folder are donated to the Alzheimer’s Association, Colorado Chapter.

The Sage 3 pays homage to the late Blackie Collins and his groundbreaking Bolt Action Lock. This revolutionary lock design consists of a spring-loaded steel bolt that wedges between a ramp on the tang of the blade and the inside of the handle back strap. Retracting an ambidextrous button releases the lock to close the blade. The new Sage 3 features a black cubic check carbon fiber/G-10 laminate handle.

Pros: None
Cons: Handle Feel, Blade Sharpness, Weight, Lock Ease of Use
Ehh
Out of 9 spyderco knives I currently own, this is by far my least favorite. It's not a terrible knife by any means, but it really has nothing to make it stand out. The ergonomics of this knife in my hand just don't work at all. Using the 50\50 choil, it's ok at best, and totally unusable holding it further back. The action is not good. Adjusting the pivot, you can either have the knife too tight to drop open or shut, or have too much blade play. There is a noticable burr all the way around the opening hole. Far too sharp and unfinished, and the little studs for the lock are too small and sharp. The detent is too weak to easily and reliabily flick the blade out It's usable, I guess, and decently built, but I definitely regret not return this when I could. I love spyderco, but at 150, you can do so so much better. It's much larger than expected even with a 3 inch blade. It's very very close to a manix 2, which is a better knife in pretty much every way.

Cons: Lock Ease of Use, Handle Material, Overall Quality
Notsowise Sage
I own a Sage 1 and a Sage 2 and they are both phenomenal knives. The Sage 3 is not nearly as nice. The orientation of the thumb hole to the pivot make opening and closing awkward. The Sage 3 handle is wider and bulkier than the Sage 1 or 2 and just doesn't feel as good in hand, the carbon fiber isn't as nice as the Sage 1 either. I returned this and bought a minigrip with a thumbhole instead, its the only Spyderco purchase I've ever regretted.

Great Knife!
I really use this as my EDC almost every day (Between this and a Brouse Silent Soldier). Only thing its missing is a lanyard hole. Awesome steel and great build quality. Great lock with really good lockup. Not a huge fan of the wire clip, but works great on the Sage.
