TOTEX4: Tex Creek Hunter
TOPS Knives
The Tex Creek Hunter is a tribute to the men and women who hunt and fish in the Tex creek area in Southeast, Idaho.

The wildlife management area which includes 2 national forests, is home to an abundance of diverse wildlife and is accessible starting about 10 miles from the TOPS shop facility. Open range, high rugged mountains, waterways and large forests provide the hunter and fisherman a variety of diverse terrain to acquire: elk, bear, mountain lion, wolf, moose, pheasant, turkey, quail, rabbit, duck, goose, steelhead and salmon.

The fact that this Tex creek area is so close to TOPS headquarters, enables their designers and makers the ability to field test in their own backyard. Since many of their staff grew up in this setting, they have ample opportunity to evaluate the use of TOPS knives/tools under the most adverse conditions. The Tex Creek Hunter XL is a fine example of a high quality, good looking “working knife.”

The designer, Leo Espinoza, created a new look on this specific blade. At TOPS, they call it “Black River Wash”. The uncoated finish clearly shows the heat treat line along the blade edge. The darkened-steel pattern is unique on every blade. This creates that “broken in, rustic look” and feels just like an old pair of comfortable boots. The darkened Micarta scales are screwed onto the handle and a large cord holder is accentuated at the back of the handle. The handles are designed and built for a positive grip and for extended periods of use. A simple and usable design is reinforced by a sturdy 3/16” thick blade and full tang handle.

Leather Sheath
Leather Sheath
Leather is known for its durability and traditional appeal. When compared to Kydex it is preferred for its silence when bumped against other objects, as well as blade retention.
1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Micarta Handles
Micarta Handles
Micarta is a compressed layered composite sealed within a thermosetting plastic which creates a strong, attractive material that is impervious to water.

Tex Creek
Love my Tex Creek although I would’ve preferred a Kydex sheath (if available)instead of the leather one(just preference) cause I also have the El Chete with the Kydex sheath. But all in all no complaints whatsoever about the knife itself. Service was great and prompt. I would definitely order from you guys again.

Excellent quality and great edc
The text creek is my favorite Tops and in general in the 4-4.5 blade. I carry one as a edc on my homestead (overlander2 also, great knife) when needing a good high carbon steel blade. Fit and finish is custom like quality as all but one of my Tops (have over 20) great edge geometry. I have both versions but prefer the standard handle over the rocky mountains pattern. I like it so much have another one on the way. Sheath is a light/medium quality but we'll made and wish it was heavier build like the BOB sheath, but has held up just fine and is my only minor critical opinion on the knife. Oh and of course came with a rough phone book paper sharp edge, which I polish up as I do with all my knives.

Excellent Quality!
I just purcheased this knife & have not yet had a chance to really put this knife to any real tests, but I will say that the quality out of the box seems to be top notch. This is a VERY nice knife, a very good usable blade shape, top notch blade steel, great linen micarta handle scales & a very nice leather sheath. This is my first Tops brand knife & from what I have seen so far they have excellent workmanship & pride in there products, & I love that there made right here in the good old USA. I will definitely be buying more Tops brand knives, thank you Tops & Knife Center!
