This United Cutlery M48 Hawk is the ultimate tactical weapon. It is lightweight to be carried all day without added muscle fatigue and the blade of the M48 Hawk offers a wide, upswept axe blade for mammoth chopping, slashing and cutting potential. The secondary edge on the back side of the head is specially sharpened on both edges for a cutting and hooking attack. When combined, the spike and axe head make for an efficient personal defense and breaching tool. The blade is securely attached to the indestructible 30% nylon reinforced handle with three separate bolts. It comes complete with a nylon snap button sheath. 8" blade, 15" overall. Made in China.

Well made tool
I purchased this as an addition to my ready bag. It seems to be just what I was looking for. My only criticism is that the handle is very slick. Probably using some course sand paper on it would make it better. I chose to wrap it with grip tape.

The first day of using my new long awaited M48 was a total let down, my 4th throw was over rotated a tad and the hawk struck on the top of the head rather than the blade, the handle shattered into pieces. Yup total letdown. I will not throw the others now, waste of money.

Every bit equal to the SOG
I own two of these now - also a SOG - and it seems to me the SOG is only considered the superior of the two because of the label. I've used both heavily (started out with the SOG based on Interwebz knife enthusiast gossip) and they're both great 'hawks, extremely sturdy, and durable. Only this one is 2 1/2 in. longer, has three head bolts instead of two, nice balance, feels good in the hand, holds an edge, and it is *so* much better looking. Oh, and cheaper. Went camping recently and a buddy went on and on about SOG superiority. After comparing the two, he was jealous of mine. Said he felt swindled haha. For the money, it's one of the best 'hawks around, and superior, to me, than the SOG in every area.
