Lavish, deep green, jigged bone handles set the Big Pine series apart from any other knives found today. Blades are crafted from 1095 carbon steel blades with a taper ground razor edge. Classic Utica war shield is embedded into one side of the handle on most models. Bolsters are solid nickel silver.

1095 Carbon Steel
1095 Carbon Steel
An excellent hard use steel, 1095 is a primary choice for camping and larger fixed blade knives for its extreme toughness and ability to hold an edge. Corrosion resistance is very limited with this steel (it will rust) and most blades come with a coating to prevent premature rusting.
Bone Handles
Bone Handles
One of the most common natural materials used in knife making, bone handles are usually textured to provide grip and can be dyed almost any color.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Blade Sharpness, None
Cons: Handle Feel
An inexpensive USA made knife
The handle is very dark green. It looks black in dim light. The handle has a jigged pattern not shown in the picture. I like that it is an inexpensive USA made knife. It opens and closes with medium amount of pressure. One of the blades opens with a slant to the handle the other blade is straight. The springs do lay flat when the blades are open. There is a metal nick I can feel on the spring. The handle seems too big for the blades. The blades are sharp. A good knife not perfect but I like it.

Cons: Handle Feel
Didn't need another muskrat, but this one called my name!
The Utica Muskrat just caught my eye. I have used an old Schrade muskrat for years in home processing venison and though I'd like to try this one next hunting season. The beautiful bone handles are in my opinion a little too sharp, as in 90 degree edges rather than a bevel that would please the hand a little more, other wise it appears to be a great knife. Touched up the factory edge and stropped it to a fine edge, just right for those little final touches before packaging the boneless venison chops. One more big plus for me is the fact that this knife is made in the U.S. A.!
