WG209000014001: BlastMatch Fire Starter, Black
Ultimate Survival Technologies
If you spend time outdoors, you should have a fire starter. Why not carry the one packed by those most at risk of facing extreme conditions?

Designed for all-weather use, this revolutionary flint based fire starting system performs superbly in the most extreme marine, arctic, desert, and jungle environments. The Ultimate Survival Technologies' BlastMatch™ was designed for Air Force fighter pilots at risk of being shot down in rugged terrain, or the mountain climber contending with challenging alpine weather. People like these need a fire starter that is operable with one hand in case of injury, won't surprise you by running out of fuel, and never fails to light in the wind, rain, or snow. Why would you want anything less than the best?

The patented BlastMatch™ generates a stream of super heated sparks literally three times the heat of a standard match. You can easily light any material (wood, paper, bark, cloth, or man-made fire starting tinder) that a match will ignite. Best of all, you can accurately aim the sparks to ignite a roaring fire in all weather conditions, and the BlastMatch™ will last up to a an amazing 4,000 STRIKES. You can't beat that!

If your BlastMatch™ becomes wet, simply wipe it off and it is ready for use. In combination with Ultimate Survival Technologies' WetFire Tinder™ (sold separately), an all weather starting tinder, you can start a fire even in the driving rain.

At the heart of the BlastMatch™ is a custom bar of high performance flint material. Spring loaded for compactness, the flint bar also rotates 360 degrees to help prevent uneven wear. A carbide striker built into the striker button is set at the perfect angle for maximum sparking - making it easy for you to start a fire.

The BlastMatch™ is also perfectly safe. To prevent accidental ignition the unique design requires you to press the thumb button in order to engage the striker mechanism.

Hey, Check This Out
How many times while making a fire in less than ideal conditions (rain, snow, wind) have you wished you were the 8 armed Hindu goddess, Durga, as you tried to manipulate your flint, steel, punk and wind/weather screen against the elements? Well, BlastMatch can at least give you back one of your hands. >>>>>>> Easy one handed operation. Weight/volume is about double a conventional fire striker, but just over 2 ozs. It creates a plentiful cascade of sparks. Nice for your bug-out/bug-home bag, in conjunction with UST’s Wet Fire (fire starters, available at Note: You need a stable/firm surface to push BlastMatch against (ground/rock/log acts as your 3rd hand/opposing force to push against), or your tinder could end up in the wet, à la, Jack London’s, ‘To Build a Fire.’ >>>>>>> You’ll have to decide for yourself if the extra volume/weight taken up by BlastMatch in your survival bag is worth it, compared to conventional fire strikers. But, I can tell you one thing. When it’s spittin’ snow, with a gale force winds, you won’t be growing another limb ; )

absolutely the best fire starter
I've done some informal comparison testing with the BlastMatch (in black), a Zippo "Zippo Orange Matte Emergency Fire Starter", and a Coleman magnesium bar/ferro rod fire starter. When using improvised tinder materials such as clothes-dryer lint, dry cotton balls, small dry twigs, or dry newspaper, the BlastMatch always got a fire going, and with far fewer attempts. I tested the BlastMatch and the Zippo in a light rain with WetFire tinder and had success with both---but the BlastMatch ignited it with only one "sparking stroke" while the Zippo needed about a dozen. In short, the BlastMatch is now my favorite non-lighter tool for starting a fire.
