Kershaw Knives

Like the rest of this series, the Filter is named for an automotive part and offers a machined look and smooth function.

The all-steel design really shows off the Blackwash finish put on both blade and handle. Blackwash gives the knife a unique "well worn" look, yet the finish isn’t just for looks. The coating provides an extra measure of protection for the metal, and the Blackwash finish helps hide any additional scratches you might put on your knife during normal use.

The Filter is equipped with SpeedSafe assisted opening for fast and easy one-handed opening. It opens neatly with the built-in flipper or thumbstud. A sturdy frame lock safely secures the blade open during use, and then closes easily for storage or carry.

The Filter includes Kershaw's deep-carry pocketclip so the Filter rides comfortably low in your pocket for discreet carry.
  • SpeedSafe - Assists you to open any SpeedSafe knife quickly and easily with a manual push on the thumbstud or pull back on the flipper, built into many Kershaw best sellers.
  • Flipper - May be used on either manual or assisted opening knives. The "flipper" is a protrusion on the back of the blade that the user can pull back on, or flip, in order to move the blade easily out of the handle.
  • Frame Lock - A portion of the handle (the knife frame) moves behind the blade to lock into position during use. This is a safety feature of the knife.
  • Blade Length: 3.25" (8.3 cm)
  • Handle: 4.5" (11.4 cm)
  • Overall: 7.75" (21.6 cm)
  • Blade Steel: 3Cr13. Black-Oxide Blackwash Finish
  • Handle Material: Stainless Steel, Black-Oxide Blackwash Finish
  • Weight: 5 oz. (143 g)
  • Made in China

Pros: Overall Quality, Blade Sharpness, Lock Ease of Use, Handle Feel, Ease of Opening, None
Cons: Weight
Great Value - Solid Knife
This is a really nice knife for the price. It is a solid EDC knife that makes quick work of boxes and other general cutting tasks. The assisted opening feature is very nice, and the lockup is good. It is comfortable in the hand, with just the right amount of gimping on the top. The blackwash finish looks sharp. I haven't owned it long enough to talk about durability, but it seems like it will hold up well. If you are looking for an ultra-light knife, this isn't for you. It has a nice, solid weight to it. I don't think it is too heavy in the pocket, but some might disagree.

Great Knife
Great Knife, Great price. This is an EDC for me, I am an electrician, the knife is used constantly and has never failed me. I also bought the Cryo II at the same time, the Cryo is a great knife but twice the price. I keep my knives razor sharp and due to the frequency and nature of the usage, I must sharpen them daily with stones. I am very hard on my EDC's and the abuse and the need for constant sharpening means a knife does not last me more than three years on average. I can't justify spending a lot of money on a knife that I will abuse from day one. There is a place for all the expensive, beautiful, functional knives on this great website, however for my needs, I require a functional, strong, durable and above all cheap knife. This knife meets all my requirements, looks great, sharpens easily, has a precise repeatable opening sequence and most importantly is easy to close with one hand. The torsion bar assisted opening system works perfectly. I have never owned an assisted opening knife before and cannot imagine going back to the old style. The Blackwash looks fantastic and has stayed completely blemish free, the clip is perfect for me. I prefer point down. The frame lock is solid and reliable. I am seriously thinking of buying a few more as replacements, in case the manufacturer discontinues them.
