SP178GP: C178GP Kiwi 4
Ahhhh… love that new Spyderco smell! One of the things that makes Spyderco so much fun to carry and collect is that they evolve their patterns over the years instead of just replacing them. Say hello to the 4th generation Kiwi!
The Kiwi has long been one of Spyderco’s most popular and enduring designs, but its latest incarnation takes this practical tool to new heights. The Kiwi 4 is upsized to fit larger hands and it features textured black G-10 scales that complement its unique double finger choil to provide a superbly secure grip. The VG-10 stainless steel blade’s full-flat grind produces incredible edge geometry for friction-free cutting, while its sturdy back lock mechanism, full liners, and solid stainless steel back spacer command ample strength. A reversible deep-pocket wire clip offers low-profile tip-up carry on either side of the body.

Kiwi 4 Heavy Friction Opening Blade
I am disappointed that a $90.00 knife showed up with such an issue as deploying the blade. Spyderco really let me down on this one. There is so much friction, that I can hear it, even without my hearing aids! Further, it takes a good deal of force to open the blade, one would be WELL advised to use both hands to open her up. I may return it, but the "Fix It" man in me wants to repair it. I would NEVER recommend this knife to anyone because of the safety issue. The blade is of good quality VG-10 steel, with a very fine edge. The knife takes some getting used to positioning it in the hand. Nothing happens quickly with this knife. If you need a quick deployment, and an immediate firm sure grip, as we say in New York, "Fahgedabowdit." The G-10 scales are as expected, and I love the clip. Overall, I recommend a complete overhaul at the drawing board, and dump this one with the Titanic.

This is truly a "gentleman's knife". Useful, clean design, but, a bit small for daily use. I keep it in my work bag, just in case I need something.

Great pocket knife
This is my EDC pocket knife. Good blade steel, thin blade, and NO choil. The handle design is very comfortable, and the handle keeps the fingers away from the sharp blade. I do electronic work, and the blade style is great for stripping plastic and rubber insulation from cables. Closed length fits well in the bottom of my cargo pants pocket. Great blade lock. Love the Spyder hole for opening. I purchased several more because I liked the knife so much.
