EMSHPDGRBSFS: Sheepdog Rangemaster Bowie, Serrated
Emerson Knives

This model, aptly named the Sheepdog, is the first Emerson knife to feature a flipper mechanism and it's absolutely perfectly done. The knock against Emerson Knives has always been that they open slower than the DMV. That has changed with the introduction of the Emerson bearing system. Lt. Colonel David Grossman is an icon in the Military and Tactical world and he approached Ernest with a request for an official company knife. A former Airborne Ranger and West Point Instructor, he is the world’s leading authority on the effects of stress and combat and how they affect an individual when faced with life and death decisions in that environment. He is the author of two groundbreaking books, “On Killing” and “On Combat” which are now regarded as required reading for anyone who must go into harm’s way.

Needless to say, Ernest was both humbled and honored when Colonel Grossman approached him in regard to making an official knife for him and his company, “Sheepdog Knife and Gun.”

“It’s important that the user must be able to open the knife under high stress so I’d need it to have a flipper. With your wave, thumb button, and flipper it’ll be the most deployable knife ever built, even in a gross motor skills environment. The rest of the design I’ll leave up to you,” he said.

And off Ernest went designing a folder that will change the way you think about Emerson Knives. The “Sheepdog Knife” is a medium size folder with some important features that have never before been featured on Emerson Knives. It is the first Emerson design to feature a bearing system in the pivot rather than a washer system and the first Emerson knife to feature a flipper. In these regards it’s like no other Emerson design ever. The knife is available in both a bowie style blade and a brutish spear point design. Knowing that this knife is specifically designed for both police and military use, these two blade styles make the most sense for a utility/defensive knife. Mr. Grossman was extremely pleased with the results and we know you will be too.

Excellent EDC
I saw one of these knives during a Lt Col David Grossman training seminar recently. I liked it then and love it now. A well thought out knife and quick to present (as described). It opens very easily. Razor sharp. Not heavy for an EDC. Great grips, really able to hold onto when wet or with sweaty hands. Only complaint (my deal, not the knife's) I bought the Bowie with the S.E. as a new design (to me) but my preference's have always been a drop point with a plain edge. Still, I'm liking this decision more and more each day. I want to order it with a 4" blade but that seems to be out of the catalog now. Bring it back and you've sold another one!
